Social Websites That Let You Listen and Download Music for Free
69How Radio Affected the Music Industry
Radio has been the source in the past that allowed people to listen to the music artists of each generation; and these radio stations let people listen to free music. Buzz generated from radio played a key role and in some cases, determined which artist would sell more records than other artists. The radio stations did not ask you for money, but only that you listen to their station; so they had to make their station better than other radio stations. They did this by playing the most popular songs that were requested & sold, so they had to do regular reviews.
This review took the Top Ten and The Top Twenty songs and rated each one by its total sales. But the radio stations did not stop there; they were always looking to be the first station to broadcast the newest and hottest talent.
That was the reason Loretta Lynn traveled from one radio station to the other, all over Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky, to become famous. She knew that for her to have the fame that she desired, everyone would have to hear her sing. The radio stations made many music artists very famous. Artists such as Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Flatt and Scruggs, The Beatles, AC DC, Shania Twain; became famous and had long successful music careers, and they were jumpstarted because the radio stations allowed people to listen to free music.
Now the "corporate stiffs" of the music industry are getting worried because people can now listen to music online for free.
It's sad but true, just watch and listen to this letter from my iPod!
How Record Companies Rip People Off...
Today we have moved beyond that. Today we have the Internet that allows people to listen to free music and download only the songs that they like.
Many times, consumers are ripped off because they have gone to the music store and had to pay for an entire CD, just to find out later that there was only one song on the entire CD that they wanted. These consumers became so upset with the recording companies; they actually stopped buying them as much.
Back during the days of Motown and ‘good music,’ you could put an album in and let the entire record play without skipping through songs. Those days seem to have disappeared, which could be the cause of dropped sales.
After the Major Label Companies realized they were losing money, they tried putting two or three good songs on the CD’s to fix the problem. This helped increase the sales a little, but it just didn’t have the impact that they were expecting. The consumers are the ones that really determine who the next superstar will be.The Digital Age of Internet Music
There are websites such as JamBuzzer, YouTube, MySpace, Frostbite, Rhapsody, and many others that allow you to listen to free music and download music. You can choose music from all types of categories such as r&b, country, classic, rock, hard rock, hip-hop, and rap. You can listen to the free music, and only download the songs that you really like.
MySpace is a site that will allow you to listen to new music artists as well as the older ones. Almost everyone checks out the MySpace pages including the big Label Companies, to find new talent. However, MySpace has started to lose some of its foothold on the music scene because of its growth into other areas, which has also brought a family of spammers with it.
Sites like JamBuzzer and Last.fm are coming onto the scene and changing the way that things are done in the ‘digital’ music world.
YouTube also allows you to listen to the free music of up-coming song-writers, and artists, in the form of video. People never know who will be viewing their songs, and want to perform as good as they can. I personally cannot think of anyone who does not have a MySpace page, young or old, and everyone that I can think of views YouTube. Both of these websites have even made the news and TV personality talk shows. All because they allow people to listen to free music, and also by letting them download music.
I am also excited to see the changes that JamBuzzer is going to bring to the digital and ‘virtual’ music industry that it says it is trying to create. I’ve seen some of the top secret screenshots and it looks quite interesting. Right now artists (Jammers) and fans (Buzzers) can sign up to be notified when the beta version of the site launches at JamBuzzer.com
If you have never gone to any of these websites, you really do not know what you are missing out on. There are plenty of songs waiting to be downloaded to discs and MP3 Players; and plenty of new undiscovered songs and artists waiting to become famous. The consumers are the people who decide the song and artist ratings. If you are a music artist or fan, then you should be taking advantage of the digital independent revolution and checking out new songs and artists on these sites. You are sure to find some type of songs and free music that you will love.

Good hub. I wrote on this same subject a few weeks ago and coudn't agree with you more--not only are "artists" on the radio not even the best available but top that off with low CD quality against mp3 and other digital files and of course no one wants to pay for albums anymore!
