Dragons. And Deities.
76This hub came from the lovely Shibashake.
And so – how do Dragons work with Deities?
I’m unsure about all Dragons. I only have Kevins slightly skewed perspective. Kevin doesn’t ‘do’ Deities. First, a fact or two.
Deity – the word – is derived from dea and deus – both Latin and meaning Goddess and God respectively. There are other words – but all mean or relate to the divine, divinity, transcendental etc.
Dragon – derives from the Greek word drakõn – and simply means huge serpent or python. So, right from the off, Kevin is a little disparaging about Deities – because the last thing he wants to be associated with is a load of *“commando crawling cold-blooded insignificant bloody reptiles”.
Kevin does not see himself as super-serpent or super-anything. He just see himself as super. And from what I can tell, Kevin views Deities as super-beings. Therefore they are less than he. A super-being is just a wonderful creation, entity. Think Superman. Wonderwoman. The Fantastic Four.
I don’t particularly agree with his views, I’m just sharing them. Personally, I think Kevin is setting himself up for a huge fall. Besides, Dragons don’t have a single Deity. No – they have a pantheon. The God Of Fire. Naturally. God Of All Things Airborne -Excluding Wasps. Goddess of Leathery Stuff. Etc.
The fact that Kevin is subject to the judgement of a pantheon, as opposed to a singular Deity, does put him on the back-foot. He disagrees. He’s said on occasion – and usually under the influence – that he looks forward to his ‘Day Of Judgement’. He has a few things on his mind, apparently.
For instance, he disagrees with his creature classification. He intensely opposes the fact that he’s mythical. He wants the God Of Cataloguing to justify why Dragons are ‘Mythical’ and crocodiles are ‘Bona Fide’. In his opinion, crocodiles are just mud-wallowing snakes with legs. And teeth.
He is hell bent of having the Goddess Of Loveliness clarify why she **tittle-tattled that its her opinion that Dragons are beastly looking. Kevin says it’s unfair that he’s viewed as unattractive. Just because some “jumped up Goddess has the monopoly on who’s dazzling, who’s not and anyway who does she think she is I mean lets face it she’s hardly a looker herself is she and its all about what’s inside yadda yadda yadda”.
Oh and I love his attitude to the God Of Perception – Depending Upon Your Political Slant. I think he’s the one who gets the biggest thumbs down. Kevin is resolute that the God Of P-DUYPS is a crazy mother who has no business ‘putting it out there that Dragons are frightening’. I think Kevin’s biggest problem is that the world at large assumes he’s fearsome and/or terrifying, which rules him out of certain things. Like playing Scrabble professionally. Or having his claws trimmed be semi-naked beauticians.
As you can see, rather than honour his Deities, Kevin appears to employ his time nit-picking and fault finding. For the main, we don’t actually talk about ‘that bloody Pantheon’. However much Kevin thinks that he should know every last detail about my life, I have little or no interest in his. Remember, I acquired him. I am rather fond of him – I won’t pretend otherwise – and he does have some merits. However, as far as I’m concerned, I’ve my own Gods to appease.
I may have taken on a Dragon. But I’m bloody well not taken on all his Gods as well.
*This has more to do with his self-esteem issues than it has to do with Deities.
** Consequently it’s now a belief system – that’s how it works. Gods’ gossip – the masses believe. Amen

thelesley - hey there :) Thankyou. Come back. Anytime.
There's always gonna be more of this nonsense.
Ah...another chapter in the life of Kevin. Do I smell a book in the works?? :D
Janetta - hey! Lol a book? You gotta be kidding! Its all from the mind of an idiot - with far too much time on her hands! Weirdly, I have several kevin hubs stacked up. I can't help myself. He's just so funny to live with ;)
Well, you know what they say, 'there's nothing like a pet dragon to get your creative juices flowing!!' :)
Janetta - living with a Dragon gets me cursing creatively. Especially when he's excited ...
lol - thanks for writing another winner you crazy frog.
God Of Cataloguing - As far as deities go, it would really suck to be stuck with that desk job :) Although - I guess there is a lot of power in getting to say what's real and what's not. It may be a rather lucrative position after all ... hmmm.
"I may have taken on a Dragon. But I’m bloody well not taken on all his Gods as well."
lol - I dunno, Kevin seems a bit shaky in his "faith", probably an easy convert - and who wouldn't want a dragon on *their* side during a holy war! :)
Love Kevin's badge!
Seriously, you have the makings of a marketable book here -- the deadpan wit is delicious, and the whole thing is daft enough to raise smiles and laughter. And that, as you know, is A Very Good Thing.
Shiba - lol you arrived! This was for you dear ;)
The G.O.Cataloguing - apparently plays a lot of online poker. Which might explain why he made card-games bona-fide?
Kevin's belief isn't shaky. It's his attitude that's the problem ...
Teresa - hey ;) Nice to see you again!
And thankyou for what you wrote. I'm a bit - taken aback. I really am just playing - and ever so slightly touched ...
I agree with Teresa. Just remember Kevin's first fans on HubPages when you make it as big as Harry Potter :)
Shiba - if ever I write a book it will have the longest dedication page going. I think you and my little favourite GlM will be at the top ;)
Hilarious. I am completely in love with your musings on Kevin and would buy the book in a hot second. Seriously, this is highly clever and fantastic stuff here.
Until then, I will eagerly await each bit of Kevin's wit and wisdom that you share here.
Roobee - seriously? I made this hub after a comment from Shibashake. I have others. I was going to post Dragons. And Eating today, 'til I saw her comment.
And honest, it's genuinely not that clever. I wrote it in about 45 minutes. As usual, I was just messing!
But thankyou! I'm really surprised at the feedback. If I knew how to collate it to book form, I'd try.
Since I wrote the first one, I carried on simply because I thought I'd expand the original. It was all bullet points and I though a bit flimsy.
When the Chronicles of Kevin are published I definitely want a signed copy!!! :D
Janetta - show me the way, you can have the first one ;)
"Shiba - if ever I write a book it will have the longest dedication page going. I think you and my little favourite GlM will be at the top ;)"
Bah fame - I want cold, hard, cash. Or some of Kevin's diamonds and rubies :)
Shiba - good morning :) And ... lol ... yup, you can't beat cash.
Let's face it, you're not gonna get any of the The Dragons' treasure now, are you?!
Hey frogdropping, you ought to give Kevin, and his deities, a tad more respect - after all he provides you fodder for some wonderfully entertaining hubs! :)
Feline - thankyou :)
I am indifferent to his Gods. They created him. But tis I who has the keeping off him - meh.
And I do respect Kevin. I'm civil. I give him personal space. In fact, I try to give him a whole heap of space. It's his choice to stick so damn close to me we also inhabit the same bloody space.
Unfortunately.
Tell the truth...you love it! :P
It's clever, I tell you- and I'm sticking to that! :) I don't know much about actually putting together and publishing a book, but will share if I come across good info.
Roobee - thankyou :) I believe book publishing involves lots more writing, manuscripts, agents and publishers. That's a sketchy outline, I don't know the details.
But it will no doubt involve a whole lot of rejection too. til, I can always shield myself, make use of Kevin.
No point having a Dragon if you can't hide behind them :)
Loving Kevin! Your relationship is so interesting!
Silver - hey :) Interesting? lol - its certainly agravating ...
The ancient Chinese have a curse - "May you live in interesting times." That's the kind of interesting I meant ;-)
That's the spirit! Make Kevin earn his keep as bodyguard!
Silver - so - tis the fault of the ancient Chinese hmmmm? I always blamed the pet-shop owner ;)
Roobee - hello there :) Kevin doesn't understand the concept 'earn your keep' - rather he's better with 'keep what is yours - and anything else that takes your fancy' ...
Ahh, so he subscribes to that sort of 'philosophy' - I should have known...my, but, you are patient to endure him. What choice do you have, though, I guess? It's like the joke - "where does an 800lb gorilla sleep? Anywhere he wants." - same applies for Dragons, I'd imagine.
Roobee - I have something tucked away. All about Dragons and bedtime behaviour. Makes uncomfortable reading ;)
-teehee- just gotta love Kevin. Great Hub!
Am I? - hey again :) Yep ... someone's gotta love him!
It looks like Kevin has a bone to pick with all his deities. Can't blame him. :)
Next time someone asks me who decides this is like this and that is like that, I will know the answer - the God of Categorization. :)
Oh, and book publishing involves only lulu.com. :)
Pacal - evening :) Kevin doesn't like the Pantheon. He'd agree with Mark Knowles on every count. I saw something about lulu somewhere. I could do it Pacal. But I'm a slacker. I'm about to right one on funeral etiquette. Should be interesting :)
I see not just a book, but a series, one of those picture books for kids that the parents really like better than the kids actually do so they buy the Kevin books for themselves and as gift$. How about done in the voice of Kevin, sort of like diaries. That's it The Kevin Diaries: the Journal Entries of a Semi-Domesticated Dragon.
Dolores - nice to see you :) It has been suggested that I elongate (or flesh out) Kevin and his goings on. I keep meaning to make a start (in fact I have) then lose track. Life keeps getting in the way!
And thankyou :)
dragons, gods and superbeings, just what I like to draw!
Hey waynet - feel free to draw kevin, his Gods and maybe you could even rustle up Dinner ;);)
