Dragon tattoos mean different things to different people

Most people agree, and the industry overall concurs, that dragon tattoos are the most popular tattoos in the world, and both men and women like to where them, and they look awesome on both.

What's fascinating about dragon tattoos is they mean very different things to someone, depending on whether your roots are in the East or the West.

Even the shape of a dragon differs across cultures, and even in the East they can be very different and shape and characteristics, for example in the difference between the idea of a dragon by the Japanese and the Chinese.

A Japanese dragon is thought of as slender and long, and aren't thought of as primarily something that flies. Chinese on the other hand tend to associate the dragon much more with wings and flying.

So when you see more of a snake-looking creature tattooed on someone with a dragon head, usually that comes from the Japanese influence.

Another great dragon tattoo design

Dragon tattoo designs are almost limitless

Dragons offer tattoo artists and designers such great material to work with, you see some that are incredibily colorful works of art, using the body as a canvas.

Others are completely black in color, and give the feel of tribal with it.

I like a combination of black lines and highlighted color

My favorite is the black dragon tattoo with a hint of color added to it. I also think those types of tattoos look the best no matter which tattoo image you're having put on you.

Where dragon tattoos are usually placed

There are primarily three places dragon tattoos are placed, and very rarely are they small. There are the half sleeve dragon tattoo, which is a tattoo design which goes up the arm, over the shoulder, and across one side of the chest.

Probably the most often placed tattoo image of a dragon is on the entirety of the back, where men and women alike seem to prefer them.

The last place normally used to imprint a dragon tattoo is on the outside of the top of the arm; from a little above the elbow and above.

Some exceptions to dragon tattoo placement

There are of course exception to these three, but probably 80 to 90 percent of all dragon tattoos are in these three positions. I did find one on someone's foot that looked unique and pretty good, so I included that in the tattoo dragon photos.

Dragon tattoos more meaningful to Asians

Many Asians take dragon tattoos as much more meaningfull than their Western counterparts, and symbolic meaning behind them than the 'cool' factor that mostly permeates the West. That's not good or bad, just a reality.

Dragons also speak to something of the character that makes up many people, and so they're really considered an extension of who they are possibly more than any other tatoo. Tribal tattoos have a similar effect as well.

Dramatic colors of dragon tattoos

What I find most interesting is dragon tattoos are among the most colorful I've seen, and probably use more color than others, which tend to include more of a darker line and ink, with some color added.

Why dragon tattoos are so popular

Because the dragon can be imagined as a long shape, and in a lot of instances are placed that way on the body, women and men can have them applied in ways that complement their unique body makeup, which I think is the reason why they're so popular among tattoo choices.

Differing dragon tattoo designs and styles

With the popularity of the dragon tattoo, it offers a large number of different tattoo styles and choices to choose from, which also lends itself to the growth and popularity it enjoys. It's like a positive look constantly giving feedback and expanding.

Anyway, no matter where you may want to put your tattoo, there will be a dragon tattoo design you are sure to want to have on your body.

This is what makes body art design so successful and fascinating, and increasingly desired.

After you look at the dragon tattoo pictures, photos and images, you'll agree that they're really something, even if just to enjoy as a piece of art.
