Step 1: Beginning Sketches

Drawing your zombies, it is essential that you start to have some idea as to what your character will look like, as zombies can be of any personality, even if they are the undead.

Any drawing always starts with a line here or a line there, and you bring it altogether, all of your ideas and sketches to make something special, after all that's what being creative is all about.

The first step is to draw your zombie in a rough state or what is termed as a draught sketch, this is to lay out your drawing to see if it will work and will look right.

You could do this in many ways, for instance, take a look at the next step.

Step 2: Lots Of Zombie Sketching

To really get a sense of what you need to draw you may need to draw a few versions of your idea to make sure you know that it will look right, this is a simple exercise in artistic development.

By doing things this way, you'll always come up with a lot of good ideas and sketches to fall back on when you do get them odd few days where nothing is working right.

Step 3: Choosing A Final Zombie Design

Out of your round of zombie drawings, you should be choosing your final design.

And to the right is the one that I have chosen, I sketched this without any need for pencil, just with a black fine liner, drawing creatures and characters quite quickly is a useful method for remembering the drafting process when drawing a zombie.

Step 4: Finishing Your Zombie Art

Adding the finishing touches to your zombie art, takes a small amount of effort compared to what you already have done, here we attempt to create life in the undead, with defined form of the zombie corpse.

And we do this with a little light and drak shading magic, my preferred method, also you can add movement lines and other things like flies and falling maggots which will help in bringing life to your zombie. I usually keep the old pencil lines in that I added along the way to draft out the shadow parts.

No worries - it should get you a little traffic, and I like your work. It has inspired me to dig out the pencils for the first time in a couple of years :)
