never is too long to wait, friend.
yes echoes achingly in the empty corridor that is never.
you ask if I will be there as you need and when
"yes," I say.
"but I will never need you," you say.
you ask if it is you and only you I'll love then
"yes," I say.
"but I will never find that time with you," you say.
you ask if I will be your friend, companion, lover
"yes," I say.
"but I will never want you," you say.
you ask me whether I will be all those and others
"yes," I say.
but I will be those things for another.
never is too long to wait, friend.
yes-echoes linger...
longingly,
lonely,
lost
in the empty corridor that is never
as I step out of the dark cool hallway
of draxian contradictions
into the sunlit warmth
of a bright Texas day.
