Thoughts Create Things
"Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture."
~Norman Vincent Peale, Author
Who is in control of your success? Is it your parents? Is it your culture, background, or upbringing? There are countless examples of people succeeding regardless of the above factors. "Yah but, you don't understand MY situation." If that sneaky little thought just popped into your head, kill that thought right now! Your subconscious is Lying to you! Norman Vincent Peale argues in his quote that we have control of our thoughts, which control our actions, which control our outcomes. Pretty powerful! It could also be pretty paralyzing depending on what thoughts we allow in our head. If we trust that we control our success with the thoughts and mental pictures we hold "tenaciously", why shouldn't we hold thoughts that empower us towards a fruitful life? Did Mohamad Ali ever say "If I win this fight..."? NO. He made it a habit of saying "WHEN I win this fight..."
Dr. Robert Anthony in his book Total Self Confidence, argues that self confidence is built through positive expectations. "If you want to succeed, your mind must be geared toward the future and these things replaced by pictures of what you want to accomplish; by visions of expectation of the great events which lie ahead." Your mind is inexplicably powerful. Dennis Waitley speaks of prisoner of war who was imprisoned in a small cage for seven years. Some of our best troops understandably, were broken in similar situations. This man controlled his thoughts and had faith that somehow, someway that he would get out of there. Not only did he picture his day of freedom, but he pictured his home golf course. He played golf everyday while be imprisoned in a cage only big enough for himself. In his mind he played ever hole, every stroke, replaced every divot, and lined up every putt. He hadn't touched a golf club for several years until he returned home. When he finally did play his home course he improved his score by several shots. That is amazing. He played more golf than most professionals, just by playing in his mind!
"Every ‘thought seed' sown or allowed to fall into the mind, and to take root there, produces its own, blossoming sooner or later into act, and bearing its own fruitage of opportunity and circumstance. Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bad fruit."
~James Allen, As a Man Thinketh
Why do people recommend dream boards? You may remember the man in The Secret, who pulled out his old dream boards from a box after moving into his knew house. The dream boards were from several years prior. He did not realize that he was in the EXACT house on his dream board until he came upon that box. It was not a house like his dream house. It was the exact house. He planted a seed and kept attention on his intention which helped that seed grow.
"What holds attention determines action"~ William James
What holds your attention? Are your thoughts propelling you towards doom and gloom, or are your thoughts empowering you towards abundance? What do you want from life? What do you not want? I used to think it was horrible to think about the negative. I have found it helpful since, to write down what I don't want, and never think of it again. I write it down and then burn it. I then hold my attention on what I DO want. "I work harder on myself, than I do on my business." Jim Rohn, author. I do have several dream boards and I do remind myself of the things I want in life on a regular basis. In addition, I am constantly reading, learning and growing. I know that I do NOT know.
This is an interactive Blog... Please let us know what you want to accomplish. What do you have on your dream boards? If you don't have a dream board, what are you telling yourself to prevent you from success? Let us know.
