How to Drive Safely at Night
69When driving at night, I drive very carefully and accordingly. I am not afraid of the dark but I respect it, especially visibility at night is very hard. So when I drive at night, I usually do these:
1.) As what I have said, at night visibility is reduced, so I reduce also my speed. I drive at a lower speed, that when I see something danger on the road, right away I can apply the brakes when needed.
2.) I switch the lever of my rear-view mirror to non-glare position so that when a car is following me and the lights are not dim, I will not be glared by its lights.
3.) When there is an approaching car in front of me, right away I dim my lights. Doing this will not blind the approaching driver. Usually one of the causes of car accidents are, drivers are blind by approaching lights causing them to run off the road, lose control or even crash head-on to the approaching car.
4.) When I am the one following other cars, I dim my light also. Because the glaring lights of my car can cause the other driver to miss a road sign or a traffic danger ahead.
5.) I am always alert of visible approaching headlight beams on curving roads and hills, this tells me that someone is coming towards me around the curve or over the crest of a hill, this readies me to be able to react and avoid trouble.
6.) "Don't drive when you're drunk". Everybody is saying this, but still there are others who still drive even when he or she is drunk. And this happens usually at night. So even if the traffic is lighter at night, still I drive slowly and carefully because drunk drivers are on the road more frequently during these hours.
7.) If I am already very sleepy while driving, I look for a well-lighted place and not isolated such as a gasoline station, etc., then park my car. I closed all the windows and sleep for 30 minutes to 1 hour before continuing driving. Don't drive when you are already sleepy.
