What The Word Of God Says.......
WELCOME TO PASTOR DR. CARLOTTA'S COUNSELING CENTER
There are many ideas of what an evangelist is or does. In order to know we must return to the source. The Word Of God! From the Scriptures we see: The Nelson Study Bible, which is a wonderful source to study from: II Tim. 4:5 ":But be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."
Evangelist is one of the five offices (offices meaning responsibilities) mentioned by Paul in (Eph. 4:11-16) ("And He himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelist, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, til we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but speaking the truth of love, may grow up in all things unto Him who is the head Christ from whom the whole body; joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.")
Study note from the Nelson Study Bible writes: "Since each of these categories is responsible for equipping believers, evangelist may also train other believers to share their faith effectively. An evangelist equips and encourages believers to share the Good News. Evangelists are gospel preachers who help bring people into the body of Christ. They do so by presenting Christ's offer of free salvation by grace through faith."
The way of Life Encyclopedia of the Bible and Christianity writes: "Evangelists are God-chosen and Spirit-gifted men to lead out in the work of evangelism. They are God's firebrands to kindle evangelist fires in the churches, to inspire pastors, to teach and to lead others in the work of evangelism.
Evangelist are to bear the burden for lost souls, for lost communities, and for lost nations. Evangelists are Christ's key men or women in His mighty evangelistic program for the world, and it is sin to ignore them..."
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
If Jesus has told us to go-and He has-then it is our responsibility to go! We may or may not have the ministry office of evangelist but if we are told to go out and evangelize, then we should at least be asking for the spiritual power to carry that about. This is perhaps the hardest thing for many of us to do but the time to speak salvation has always been now!
Lord Jesus, gives us that gift of evangelism; give us that boldness to approach others with your word and with your love. Give us the opportunities to share our testimony and give us the strength and power to make our own opportunities. Make us vessels of your honor and give us the wisdom and knowledge to spread your message in spirit and in truth!
What is that gift of evangelism? I see it listed as one of the five-fold ministry, but not as a gift. Maybe there is not really a gift of evangelism but all the spiritual gifts support this one function in all of us. We are not all prophets or apostle or have the gift of tongues or interpretation but maybe we should all be evangelists. Is the church fulfilling its rightful role in the world? Or are we all just praising the Lord that we are saved and then keeping it to ourselves?
Read Acts. 8:4-5
Acts. 8:40
Acts. 21:8
Acts. 8:29-31
We all have gifts from God, some more than others! But I believe that we were all commissioned by God to preach the gospel. There is really no other way of putting this. SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS!!
If you haven't accepted Christ as your Savior simply say in an audible voice, in all sincerity from the depths of your heart, "Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sins and accept me as Your child. I accept You as my personal Savior and I promise to follow the instructions of Your Word from this day on. If I fail because I am human, please help pick me up so I can try again! Thank you, Jesus, for saving me from all my sins. AMEN."

Thank you for your comment!! That's right Judah's Daughter!!! We will be Judged for not speaking the truth which sometimes becomes hard especially to a love one!!! I have came to a point in my life that I really don't care anymore what people think, but I do care what God thinks! He will open the pathway for you to display your gifts and ministry when you obey Him!! Why you think were writing these Hubs now? This is NO MISTAKE!!! Hmmmmm... Blessings!
I would just like to share something. On May 5, 2000 my mother was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer which is the rarest form of cancer. Moffitt cancer center sees maybe 1 out of 300 cases a year. I think this is a very valuable ecperience. When the surgeon told my mother she was dying and only had time her 1st comment was I know I will be a miracle. Then one day Mom and I were watching tv and their was someone on tv who said they could heal people and I asked Mom if she wanted to go. Mom said, "No everyone's hair is numbered on their head and everyone has a purpose." She also said, "This is not for us this is for others to see how we deal with it." When Mom took a turn for the worse and ended up in the hospital for 13 days she never once asked for anything stronger than Tylenol 3. One day my friend and I were sitting with her in her room and she could not lift herself without my help but, not on this day she sat up in bed waist high and took her hands and she said, "Hear I am come and get I am ready." I shall never forget that. Let no one under estimate the power of our God.
Great hub!

This is a beautiful message, doctor. What a blessing you are to others as an Evangelist and what a blessing it is for you, too, I am sure. I enjoyed reading about the meaning of your calling. Thank you for sharing.
I LOVE this hub! It's speaks to my soul, and makes me wanna stretch out more for God! I know what God has called me to do but sometimes it's kinda of scary and i ask Him Why me? Being called from my mothers womb has had me marked all of my life, and its being painful, and lonely. Being called as a Man of God or Evangelist is not easy and the road is actually lonely, but im pretty sure you know all to well, the peaks and valley, altough seems like more valley!
Regardless, i still wouldnt want to do anything else in the world or be anyone else because the joy i get from being used by God far out weighs the lonley times. Great hub, keep up tha good work for the Lord!!!
Thank you James for your comment, you always life me up!!!! Blessings!!!
Thank you twill4jc for you comment! Yes I must admit, it's nice working for the Lord!!!! Praise God!!!! Loving it!!!
Hi Carlotta
I thank you for the hub, but this is what I understand of the role of the Evangelist in the Body of Christ. Quoting Ephesian 4, its clear that this Gift of Christ (Doma Gift) is a Governmental Grace and is given to the Body of Christ. The characteristic of the Evangelist is that he has the grace to display the Love of the Father. He personifies this LOVE of God. He mission field is not the unsaved, but the saints, He is to equip them for the work of the Ministry, so that the saints can be infected with the Love of the Father and this infection will be seen by those who need to come into Kingdom. For far too long now we have been sending the Evangelist out into the World that is not his mission field, it is accurate, that mission field belongs to the Holy Spirit, lets look at John 15:8 Speaking about the Holy Spirit, "And when He comes He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgement."
The purpose of the Evangelist was to never pitch up a tent and scream about the devastating effects of Hell or Call to repentance the sinners. We have been misled down the wrong path into believing that this was his function and as a result after 2000 years we are not anywhere closer to the finish than when we started. This is what tradition will do a Christian, it neuters your spiritual power to discern what the scripture is saying, in the context of present truth. Now make no mistake God the Father winked at this foolishness in years gone by, but no longer, there is group of sons in the earth that want to see the Kingdom fully restored. Its time for the Apostles and the Prophets, to delete this foolish paradigms and to restore order back to the Body of Christ.
The Commission to "Go into all the world" was not given to the Governmental Grace of the Evangelist but was given to the Governmental Grace of Apostles and Prophets. I submit to you that your interpretation of the function of the Evangelist is inaccurate and must be be re-adjusted in the context of present truth. Please do not be offended my dear sister and I do not want you to publish this if you think it will reduce your credibility on Hubpage, but speaking the truth in love let us all grow to more excellent ways of the spirit. The truth will always set you free.
Leon Elijah your comment doesn't offend me and I know this comment you made will not reduce my credibility on Hubpage. That's why I am publishing your comment for all to see how the truth in the Bible can be twisted! I was waiting for this comment, for this Hub is a challenging (exhorting) message as my fan Judah's Daughter expressed. lol. I excepts opinions but love the TRUTH! I stand by God's Word and not by others feelings. Oh by the way it's the Great Commission Matt. 28:19-20, not The Commission. If you read this Scripture carefully it says: "Go therefore amd make disciples of "ALL" the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. "AMEN." It did not say anything about Apostles and Prophets only! The Great Commission, in Christian tradition, is the instruction of the resurrected Jesus Christ to his disciples, that they spread his teachings to all the nations of the world. First of all, a disciple of Jesus Christ is someone who has accepted by faith God's free gift of salvation. The word disciple refers to a follower of Jesus, a learner, or a pupil. So, in order to be a follower of Jesus, one must believe His Gospel and accept it by faith. Again I say to you, you don't have to be an Apostle or Prophet to spread the Word of God, but a believer! What I said in my closing statement: What is that gift of evangelism? I see it listed as one of the five-fold ministry, but not as a gift. Maybe there is not really a gift of evangelism but all the spiritual gifts support this one function in all of us. We are not all prophets or apostle or have the gift of tongues or interpretation but maybe we should all be evangelists. Is the church fulfilling its rightful role in the world? Or are we all just praising the Lord that we are saved and then keeping it to ourselves? I rest my case. All Glory and Honor goes to JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOR!
This is to twill4jc- I am concerned for you that you would be so lonley and in pain serving the Lord. Are you sure you are in your right calling or is it what someone else told you? I don't want to offend you or family members or church elders that may have told you what your calling is supposed to be. That is something you should know for yourself. If you have felt a tug from the Holy Spirit in another direction then take some time with the Lord (alone) and see if He has something else in mind for you. You are uniquely and wonderfully made and God has a plan for your life. It should be something that brings you joy and fulfills your life. If you are feeling scared and lonely and in pain ( God hasn't given us a spirit of fear but power, love and a sound mind) then you should really get with the Lord and also go to an on-fire church that is passionate about the Lord and will love you and encourage you so that you can find your true calling and passion in the Lord and have victory and more mountain top experiences instead of valleys. This is written to you out of love and not to manipulate or condemn you because I think you have already experienced enough of that. You are not a failure and you don't have to measure up to other peoples expectations. Your calling is between you and the Lord. He will make a way where there seems to be no way. Reach out to him for your needs and HE will give you the desires of your heart. He created you and HE knows what you need. You need some spiritual TLC that only the Lord can give. Wishing you God's very best. Be Blessed!
MACACH thank you for you comment to twill4jc. Your compassion is genuine. And because this was written out of love, I had to publish it to my Hub. Thank you for your concern for another soul, and may God Bless you in all you do my friend. Your ministry touched my heart. In my Counseling with clients I have learned that their search becomes their fears. Some even becomes confused. That's where we as believers come in and comfort them with love. The enemy is a liar and have no victory over them for we can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens us. Amen! I have became your fan my friend.
Thank you for your kind words DRpastor. It is important to encourage one another in the Lord. The world won't do it for us. I have not had time to read all of your hubs but from what I can see you are full of the Holy Spirit and a knowledgeable lover of Jesus. Keep up the good work. The fan now blows both ways. Be Blessed!
Thank you so much for the God I see in YOU! Your a blessing to me!! Love ya!!!

I love the way you present such an important and yet challenging (exhorting) message. I notice more and more how many of the saved are "safe" inside their own salvation and elect not to step on toes or offend people by opening their mouths for the Lord. Surely, it takes wisdom, but also bravery to risk one's reputation and popularity.
For me, I have a boldness, as I'm sure is evident. It's been painful to my flesh to see those to whom I open my mouth almost destest what is being said; my reputation is set negatively in their world; I don't always say things that are the popular opinion...nevertheless, as we see the Day of the Lord approaching, will we stand before God and explain why we didn't speak out; amen?
As Paul told Timothy, if they don't "hear", move on to the next City. It's worth evangelizing, even if we feel like our reputation or popularity is affected in the world. I love this saying, "Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but no one (but God) can count the apples in a seed." Saving one soul can bear much more fruit! Saving someone out of a false doctrine sends them back to others that can understand!
Praise God, we must continue to "fight the good fight" at all costs. Evangelists are soldiers; we are all called to be soldiers, not afraid to stand before the "Goliath" of this world in order to set His people free! All it took for David was faith and some small rocks ~ yet, we have faith and a huge BOULDER, the ROCK of Jesus Christ! Amen!!
