The Word of God is very clear; when we are attacked by the symptoms of disease, we have a right to stand on the Word and believe for the manifestation of that Word in our lives. I Peter 2:24 "...who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we having dies to sins, might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed." Jesus Christ bore all sickness and pain so we would not have to. The Bible clearly states that healing is a part of His redemptive plan for our lives.

Because it is a part of God's redemptive plan and a part of Christ's atoning work, we must gain an understanding of our healing as past-tense reality instead of a future-tense expectation. God is not the least bit displeased if we receive our healing in some of the other ways we have listed, but God desires that we can resist the devil, no matter how he attacks, and defeat him. Because this is true, He has given us the Name of Jesus and the Word of God to combat Satan, and defeat him.

MEDICINE AND DOCTORS

There are many misconceptions about the role of doctors and medicine in health of believers. Some erroneously believe that healing is not valid for people today because we have doctors and medical science is so far advanced compared to what it was in the first century. Others erroneously believe that doctors and medicine are a display of unbelief that is contrary to their walk in the Word.

Doctors see sickness and disease in the same light as God does. They view sickness and disease as an enemy that needs to be eradicated. Doctors are fighting the same enemy that God opposes through divine healing. No Christian should ever feel condemned for using the services of a medical professional! Going to a doctor is not necessarily "unbelief," any more than refusing to take one's medicine is necessarily "Faith." Many believers have stopped using their prescribed medicine, thinking they were presuming too much of their own maturity. Faith is inward, an assurance and rest, not an outward activity, or lack thereof. A person can build his or her faith for healing with complete confidence, while continuing to take medication for an illness. Faith and medicine are not enemies; they are allies.

NATURAL AND SUPERNATURAL ASSISTANCE

Medicine uses natural means to fight disease, while divine healing relies on supernatural means to achieve the same ends. These two things must not be confused. God is undoubtedly the creative genius behind the great medical breakthroughs of the recent past. Many lives have been saved and many people have been helped; this does not sound like the work of the devil.

Healing by God and healing by medical science is not the same. One is natural; the other is supernatural. Neither is the work of the enemy!

HINDRANCES: WHY SOME FAIL TO RECEIVE THEIR HEALING.

Did God fail them? Did God fulfill His Word, or not? Many times when someone is obviously not healed, it is because hindrances are blocking the power of God from flowing into their life. When these hindrances are dealt with and removed, healing will come. Those who do not receive healing cannot say to God, "You have failes to do what Your Word says You will do." There are several things that the Bible list as reasons for our failure to receive our healing.

IGNORANCE

The most common reason for God's people failing to eceive healing from Him is that we are ignorant of the fact that our healing was provided for in the Atonement. Even though we have read that verse of scripture that tells us we were healed through the stripes of Jesus, we do not know that it really applies to us in a physical sense. We have never sought out the scriptures to make sure that God's will is that we be well.

Overcome ignorance with knowledge! Romans 10:17 NKJV- "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." This is exactly as true for healing as it is for salvation. Faith for healing comes and lodges in out heart when we hear the Word of God that declares to us the will of God and His provision for us.

As long as you remain ignorant of the Word of God that declares your free from sickness and disease, you will hinder yourself from receiving your healing from God. You can never be sure it is God's will for you to be healed until you hear the "good news" concerning healing. When you begin to mediate on the Word, you replace ignorance with spiritual understanding, faith begins to rise up in your heart and healing replaces your ill health.

DOUBT AND UNBELIEF

The difference between doubt and unbelief is clear and simple, but both of them work out the same in our lives regardless of which. Doubt is the muddy uncertainty about what God wills. It can be taken care of easily by studying and meditating in the Word of God. Unbelief is a refusal to believe what cannot be seen or readily understood. It can only be remedied by making a quality decision to believe and trust the Word of God. Doubt and unbelief will keep you from receiving from God because you will not allow faith to be activated and held on task by patience. Unbelief can be found in two basic forms: community ands individual.

WALKING IN DIVINE HEALTH

Living totally free from illness is God's best for His children. This is living in a state of divine health. Divine healing is the provision that God has made for those experiencing ill health. His best is that we live completely free from sickness, defeating the enemy by faith every time he tries to oppress us with symptoms of disease. This does not mean we should feel condemned if our health comes under attack. The devil may attack, but a believer with a strong knowledge of the will of God will assist the onslaught of the enemy and win. In order to live in divine health there are some things we must know and do. Without exercising ourselves to some degree of diligence, we will never receive anything from the Lord. Laziness gets nothing from God.

In addition, there are certain natural laws that cannot be ignored if we expect to walk in divne health. God neith blesses nor overlooks stupidity. If we obey the Word, aligning ouselves with the criteria the Word lays out; we can expect to live in divine health, successfully overcoming the attempts of the enemy to put sickness on us.

If you haven't accepted Christ as your Savior simply say in an audible voice, in all sincerity from the depths of your heart, "Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sins and accept me as Your child. I accept You as my personal Savior and I promise to follow the instructions of Your Word from this day on. If I fail because I am human, please help pick me up so I can try again! Thank you, Jesus, for saving me from all my sins. AMEN."

Hi sistha!!! I was thinking on this today as well!! I was remembering my friend Carla, who had a strange illness causing black-outs for two years. There were no doctors that could figure out what was wrong, even a neurologist! Therefore, we went to the Great Physician! I wrote a hub on this and it's incredible. The Lord revealed to me that it was spinal meningitis!! It manifested three days later, was identified by the hospital, and she was healed of it!! Sure enough, it had started from a sinus infection that was not properly treated two years before!!! Praise God!! He's still in the workings of healing His children every single minute of every day!!

Yes, if we don't take care of ourselves reasonably, we can bring on poor health and sickness. It takes repentance of those things to bring healing, for sure!! We can't abuse ourselves to death and expect the Lord will just heal us whenver we face those consequences!! He's still working on me, as I'm growing older and realizing more and more how important it is to eat right and exercise!!

I love you so much and stand united with you!! God bless you abundantly!!

I believe that even dealing with disease God comes to help us in ways we might not comprehend. Dealing with my own disease, God told me in a dream once through Angels that I would be a powerful witness in dealing with my disease. its true we're not always healed but God brings good out of every situation!

Yet another great Hub Pastor. I agree with everything you said. Prayer is always answered but sometimes the answer is "No." Paul had infirmities God refused to remove and we know he was well connected. Thank you for your fine work. It is needful.

You stated, "Because it is a part of God's redemptive plan and a part of Christ's atoning work, we must gain an understanding of our healing as past-tense reality instead of a future-tense expectation." I believe that God's redemptive plan and Christ's atoning work, rather than understanding it as a "this and instead of," is a past-tense reality as well as a future-tense expectation.

If we look closely at the "past-tense healings" in the gospels, we will see that the emphasis is not on the restoration of the individual’s heath, but on the restoration of the individual to fellowship in the reconstituted Israel of God. The healings Jesus performed are not merely for the sake of one’s health and wellbeing nor are they merely an act of love and mercy. Rather they serve an evangelistic purpose in that they cleansed the ailment that made people ritually unclean. It’s interesting to note that Jesus didn’t heal people of coughs, colds, and flu. Bad backs and sprained ankles, no. Leprous hands and paralytic bodies, yes. Those who received healing served Jesus’ in advancing his mission in the furtherance of the good news, for he was sent for this purpose (Mk 5:20; Lk 4:37, 43). His healing ministry demonstrated a preview of his kingdom power over the power of sin, the spiritual realm, and the soul's of men and women.

When we come to the much-quoted passage in Isaiah 53:4-6, "by his bruises we are healed," we understand that the context is referring to the effect and remedy of our iniquities. The power of sin deforms, debilitates, and destroys our physical bodies. In Romans 6:14-25 Paul wrestles with the effects of the law of sin in his own life. All the more reason why the Apostle cried out, "Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" Our remedy from the law of sin is the Redeemer of grace and truth.

In the "future-tense of healing," our iniquities prevent us from entering the glories of heavenly perfection unless they are dealt with. Although we have been healed from the disease of sin, we're all dying from the effects of it. We have been rescued from the penalty of sin, it's ability to control our lives, and yet, we're dying from its God-ordained consequence (Gen 2:17). The same could be said for our physical bodies. We have been given healing through God's redemptive plan. While we are being made perfect in our glorified bodies as we go from glory to glory (2 Co 3:18), our physical bodies are are still getting older and dying daily until we come into the presence of God and realize the full significance of Christ's atoning work on the cross.

I thought it best to bring balance to your hub. Especially for those found battling with the flesh and the demonic as well as illness and disease. In essence, the atonement was designed for our ultimate glorification. We look to the day when our physical bodies will be glorified like the resurrection body of Jesus Christ. I agree with what you said, "Living totally free from illness is God's best for His children." This is a final state of divine healing found in the eternal work of the atonement and realized in the ultimate glorification of His children.

WOW! Thank you Judah's Daughtr for your comment! I told you great minds think alike!! lol, lol, lol, Yes! You are so right!! If we don't take care of ourselves reasonably, we can bring on ourselves poor health and sickness. Wisdom plays an important part in our lives, and consequences will come upon us due to how we take care of out bodies or anything else concerning our lives. I stand in United with you as well my sister In CHRIST!!!!!

I so appreciate Gicky's comment as well ~ balance is the key! We see the consistency of Jesus' statement to those He healed of "your sins are forgiven you" and "your faith has healed you". I know for me, personally, as I've come closer to the Lord in reading His Word, praying and dwelling in His presence, even my own body has been healing! I've had moderate to severe psoriasis on my legs mostly, and it's nearly gone now! I didn't do anything, just kept drawing closer to my Lord!! He heals from the inside out ~ amen!!

And with the case of Carla, I shared above, this healing caused her husband's revival in the Lord; three pastors did a doctrinal study (because they refuted that the gifts of tongues and healing were not in use today!) and it changed all three of their churches!! The Lord heals to bring glory to God!! To build His kingdom!! Hallelujiah!!

I agree Sciantel, God does come to help us in ways some might not comprehend and its true we're not always healed and God does brings good out of every situation. And that in it's self can be His reason. My opinion : If God is there to wake me up, give me strength to make it that day, protect me all through the day, I am protected by Him! God says His grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness through Him. I have became more aware of how I take care of myself than ever now, couldn't this be a blessing? I think so! When God chooses not to remove a sickness, you should rejoice in the weakness, knowing that you are strong in God. God will give you "sufficient grace" (2 Cor 12:9) to deal with the illness. I know this is true!! I was diagnosed with three illnesses!! No one believed the doctors or me when I told them! I didn't just give up, I stay positive and intune with God and follow His wisdom! Some people can't comprehend that but I believe and trust in God. He's all I have and He told me I can do all things through Him who strengthens me! Blessings!

Thank you James for you comment! I must agree with you too! Sometimes the answer is No! But if it is, be assured that God is still working for you! His reasons are not ours and that's what gets people confused on healing. I tell you this, I rather have God running my life than myself!!!!! lol, lol, I know no matter what, He is going to take care of me!!! I am a walking testimony that will never waiver! Blessing my friend!

>Sciantel says:

>Dealing with my own disease, God told me in a dream once >through Angels that I would be a powerful witness in >dealing with my disease.

Paul tells us: Choose this day who you serve. If you choose the Lord (the words "the Lord" have been often substituted in scripture for "I AM" , the name of God)(Paul also warned against changing the words but that's another topic) then you are WITNESSES AGAINST YOURSELF. This means when you use the Lord's name to describe your sickness saying "I am sick." you will witness your sickness. If instead you dare to say "I am healthy" you will begin to witness your health. The degree to which, and speed at which, it works depends on your faith...how much you believe it will work.

The placebo effect is an excellent demonstration of this principal...a very good reason to have faith in it.

Thank you pjk_artist for this comment! As a Man Thinketh in His Heart, So is He! This is TRUE! This Topic is a touchy subject. I have constructed many other Hubs that point back and forth to each other to help an individual make sense of it all. It's not easy to present a healing Hub to an individual or persons who are sick and don't understand asking, why me, how long, or what's going on! I pray that all my Hubs will minister to all but I can't go wrong using the Word Of God! Blessings!

Drpastorcarlotta,

You are so right we must "STAND ON THE WORD." It is important that we know the WORD, BELIEVE the WORD and then apply what we learn. The WORD is active it is ALIVE and is able to do spiritual surgery! The TRUTH is powerful and God is able to heal, deliver and set FREE those who are bound. After all did HE not create us? Did not Jesus put back the soldiers ear that had been cut off? Yes,

The Word is full of miraculous healings by where we can be inspired and encouraged. But healing does not always happen right then and there. Sometimes it is a process. Divine healing is possible but it does not always come about instantaneously. Remember the man that laid by the pool for years! There was a purpose for that. God has provided us with His Comforter to reassure us of His constant indwelling presence.

The WORD validates the signiificance in praying for one who is sick. “And the prayer of FAITH will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins he will be forgiven... Confess your faults to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man avails much.” JAMES 5

This is not saying to not go to the doctor or use medicine. In some cases healing does come without medicine or doctors. But doctors are also important instruments that are used to bring about healing as well! When we pray and ask God to heal we sometimes have to be patient and allow the natural process to take place. Our prayers demonstrate our FAITH and that we TRUST GOD and are entrusting the person(S) and the situation up to HIM and HIS will...

You are so right we need to educate others on the significance of them "BELIEVING" otherwise I AGREE "it hinders your ability to receive healing!"

Thank you my sister! I pray and know that this hub will minister to the Hearts, Minds, Bodies and Souls of many. I Thank the Lord for you as you continue to labor in His vineyard!

Blessings

Without all the round the bush words, when will Christians come staight out and say what Jesus actually did. Everyone is an individual with mental illness. Actually medication will not stop a reoccurance of the illness, it has its positives and negatives. It's the individual case and up to the individual if they wish it or not. But we do receive peer pressure and by the way, the law states a person with mental ilness does not have to take medication, unless the individual is a danger and to be a danger, they have to have other issues too than mental illness. Medication for mental illness is not like an antibiotic and it more like a lemon drink when ill, and even a lemon drink will not stop a flu. And we don't have a cure for aids yet either. Mental illness is like a heartattack caused by stress. The only difference with mental illness is if a person is in ill health, people assist them, but the mentally ill get no understanding or assistance and are pressured with drugs which only work when one is sick.
