Welcome to part 2 of the series of lessons I've written on learning how to play drums.
If you're an absolute beginner it's an easy to follow, step-by-step tutorial that will teach you the basics in a way that even a complete novice can understand.
To understand the 'tabs' you'll have to read the first lesson of the "Drums & Drumming" series otherwise it will make little sense to you.
Straight 4/4 Beat

As you play the beat count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4... over and over again as you hit each beat.
Count in your head or count out loud. It's a good habit to get into when you're learning. Later you might not need to. But if you're not landing the beats right in the early stages then count it out and practice until perfect!

The thought process behind being a drummer:
- In a band situation you get to have the most fun.
- You're the most integral part of the band.
- You've got the best seat.
