Okay, here is an easier fix for the Red Rings of Death problem on the Xbox 360. It's a faster and cheaper fix than the first way I showed you.

What you will need for this fix is:

8 pennys

Electrical Tape

Thermal Paste (heat sink paste)

This fix is very easy. First, you want to open up your xbox. On the sides of the system there are 2 gray plastic mesh covers.  Remove them by taking a very small screw driver and poking it in the holes around the area shown. Do this on both sides on each end of the xbox.

Next, take off the face plate. Then, on the back of the xbox there are litte holes at the middle where the top and bottom half meet. You're going to use the same small screw driver (flat head) and push the screw driver into each hole. You'll hear a pop noise when you've done it right.  Then, work your way to the left. There are two other holes on the left side where the power plugs in. But to cut back on pictures I didn't add it.

Now  work on the front using a flat head screw driver or your finger nails. Lift the 3 clips up and pull the front open-- the bottom part of the xbox should now come off.

Flip the xbox over and remove the 6 long screws shown in the picture. Once you've taken out the 6 screws flip the xbox over yet again, but before removing the top pull the eject button off the front of the xbox other wise it will break when you take the top off. Also, there's a white plastic piece covering the green R.O.L. (ring of lights) board. Take that off and remove the 3 screws.

Also, there are several little screws around the border of the xbox that need to be taken out as well--otherwise the motherboard will not come out.

Once you get the top off (without braking the eject button) pull out the DVD ROM drive and disconnect the wires on the back of it. To get the white plastic wind tunnel out you will need a flat head screw driver. Stick it in the top and lift the metal piece up. Take the fan out and disconnect the wire. Grabbing the CPU heat sink (the one on the right) pull the motherboard out of the metal case.

Flip the board over. This is an xbox that I've already worked on so it didn't have x-clamps on it, but I put one on the left to show you what it would look like. If you look at the board you will see 4 black chips around the right side on the board. These are the chip we will be working with. They also overheat when playing the xbox and cause the red rings of death. So we are going to keep them cool.

Using thermal paste put a tiny dab on each of the chips. Then put the penney's in 4 stacks of 2 and cover each stack with electrical tape real good, You don't want any metal exposed. Now gently push one stack on each of the 4 chips. This will also spread the paste over the surface. Just to be safe put another piece of tape over each stack to keep them in place.

Alright your almost done! Carefully put the mother board back in the metal case. Now plug in the power and video cables. Turn your xbox on and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then unplug it and let it sit for 30 minutes. After that put it all back together and fire it up. It should be working.
