Eat stop Eat Review

I bought Brad Pilon's book: eat stop eat, I can say that it strips off all the nonsense that we are constantly bombarded with by the media today, Brad openly presents the only 2 resounding facts that are scientifically proven:


1) Prolonged caloric restriction is the only proven nutritional method of weight loss and
2) Human beings (nutritionally speaking) can only be in one of the following states: Fed or fasted.

These 2 statements are the bedrock of the entire book and simple as they are they are also PROFOUND!

The basics premise of the book is also that we are not designed as beings to continuously eat the way we do, and thus we get the current epidemics of:

  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • metabolic syndrome (syndrome x)

All of these diseases have a common series of combined causal factors 1)we consume too many calories 2)we exercise too little and live largely sedentary lives. The other amazingly true aspect covered in Eat Stop Eat is that diets dont work because we cannot stick to them permanently, ie a diet is by definition destined to fail in the long run..

The solution

a eating culture, Brad compares our consumerism driven eating culture to that of the tradtional french and japanese eating cultures - where eating is done with focus and not distracted (like sitting in front of a tv or computer) basically we have a non - culture when it comes to eating, we just do whatever any whim takes us, usually after some commercial! and the grumble in the tummy. The only way to solve this problem is to adopt a permanent healthy eating culture, NOT centered around WHAT we eat, macronutrient ratios carbs/protien fat or even glycemic index or load - The eat stop eat method has nothing to do with these things, and everything to do with Intermittent fasting! Intermittent fasting is abstaining from all food and only consuming green tea(without milk or sugar) or water for 24 hours in the eat stop eat method this is done 2 x per week on any days you choose and it is done CLEVERLY so that you are still eating every day- How is this possible? An example: You eat until 2 pm on your fasting day, then stop all eating until 2pm the next day :) hence 24 hours fasting and no complete starvation every day and the maximum hunger time is while you sleep :) all good! Benefits of Eat Stop Eat:

  • You lose on average 2 pounds a week until you hit your healthy weight and then you stabilise
  • you can do it forever
  • you can eat whatever you want (without going nuts just because you fast!!) and not really focus on a special diet
  • you become younger and healthier- body releases growth hormone that does this
  • you become more muscular
  • detoxifies your system
  • lowers your insulin resistence=reverses diabetes 2
  • Improve your longevity
  • clear your mind and allow you to focus more effectively
  • Eat Stop eat will basically change your life for the better on many levels.
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Improves cardiovascular health and
  • Reduces the risk of strokes
