Successful selling on eBay involves knowing the market. Not always as easy as it sounds. The big buzzwords of recent months have been niche selling, yet curiously the most successful ebay auctions of 2007 seem to have been driven by media hype and celebrity gossip with the most mainstream names clocking up the biggest sales.

However before you abandon your niche it is worth noting that many of the items sold have only been associated with celebrity by canny sellers with a flair for marketing. For example many of the 16, 052 sales clocked by Amy Winehouse merchandise was for big black beehive wigs rather than her cds, posters etc. So when planning your auctions it might well pay to see if your item can be linked with a celebrity.

Other items such as the Kate Moss Top Shop range were short term successes driven by the initial shortage of her range in the stores and the eagerness of buyers to be the first to own her designs.
