If you're earning money online or wanting to, you'll have often come across ebooks. However, the subject of ebook Resale Rights can at first look confusing.

You might be wondering which ebook Resale Rights you want, or need. But when you break it down, there are just a few ebook Resale Rights you need to watch out for.

You cannot assume that if you have an ebook you are allowed to just copy it and resell it. That's the same as illegally downloading and selling music. In fact, the rights of items like ebooks work the same as for music. If you go into a public place and they have music playing, they'll have had to have bought a licence (the rights) to do that! Buying and selling ebooks is no different - and are priced accordingly.

if what you are buying, or even receiving free, contains the Resale Rights to the ebook, you are allowed to resell it. Watch the small print to find out if you are allowed to give it away as an incentive, if you are allowed to sell it for any price you choose, or if there is a fixed price or lowest price. You will be buying these rights to be able to sell the books to make money from people who want to read the book for the information contained in it.

The reason people allow you to give it away, or sell  it and keep the money, is because it is promoting their business in some way, so they're keen to advertise themselves as far and wide as possible.  If they allow you to give the book away, or to sell it and keep the money, then there's a reason for you to do it!  So it makes good commercial sense.

If you're trying to promote a business, it is a great idea to write an ebook and let people have Resale Rights to it.

When you buy an ebook that has Master Resale Rights (MRR) you are getting the right to sell the book on, as in the basic ebook Resale Rights - AND - to sell on the right for your buyers to also resell the book.

This means you are selling the ebook to two types of people:

• people who want to read the book for the information contained in it
• people who are buying the book so they can make money from reselling it.

If you're buying Master Resale Rights (MRR) you might be aiming to sell to only one of these groups. If you're looking to sell it to both, you might consider keeping your advertising separate so you are delivering one marketing message to your target audience.

Somebody who wants to read the book might be put off by being told they can resell it to make money!

Private Label Rights (PLR) are the most powerful rights you can get your hands on. If you're looking to make money online and want to create your own product, then it is PLR that you need.

Originally, PLR was for ebooks, but it is increasingly now possible to buy or obtain PLR audio files and even PLR videos.

Many people use PLR documents purely to chop up into articles, to do their article marketing with. If you buy some PLR materials, chop it up into articles that promote your website, then chuck the whole lot into a piece of software that automatically sends your articles to articles directories, then that's a major time-saver and one of the quickest/best ways to promote your business and website.

You are usually supplied with the books in a Word .doc format and can quite literally change anything you like, put your own name on it, re-brand, repackage and resell the product for whatever price you like. In fact, you could even start a white label business by rewriting the material and seling it through your own affiliates!

The white label, or PLR, part of the title is the indicator that you're able to repackage these. There's good money with these ebook Resale Rights perhaps by re-writing the material, designing a cover and having it printed and sold as a physical book. Or how about having portions recorded as mp3s and sold as an audio course either online, or cut to CD?

If you are just lazy, you don't have to change any of it, but the whole point of White label/PLR is that you CAN - and should. However, buying PLR products and investing your time is something you need to think about carefully. Check and double-check the small print. Employ a lawyer if you can, if your business is depending on how you will be using them. While most agreements will enable you to do exactly what you want, if you just assume then you might find yourself out of pocket having just printed 10,000 copies of a book where the small print specifically said you aren't getting reprint rights! It's just a small matter, but important.

Top Tip: Whenever you are given an ebook, or buy an ebook, print out the pages along the way that tell you what you're allowed to do! Just in case. I just print to PDF rather than paper, but either is good.

So, as you can see, ebook Resale Rights vary greatly in your ability to earn money with them. The white label, PLR, route can be very expensive, but the rewards can be quite high if handled properly.
