EFFECTS OF EATING CHOCOLATES: IS IT GOOD OR BAD FOR OUR HEALTH?

CHOCOLATES!! CHOCOLATES!!
How I LOVE CHOCOLATES! Just browsing pictures of chocolates made me want to go to the nearest store to buy one... or even ONE DOZEN! I'd go for any type of chocolate, may it be plain, white, bittersweet, with almonds, or even strawberry or kiwi-filled!!
Kids would fight with one another to get the last piece of chocolate as the price.
Women have the tendency to forget diet just to have a bite of their favorite chocolate bar!
Men love giving their ladies chocolates for gift as chocolates being known as aphrodisiacs!
Well, a lot, if not all, craves for chocolates. So what are the effects of eating this ultimately sweet foodie? Does it do us good? Do we have to steer away from chocolates? What it is that is so addictive with chocolates?

HEALTHY OR HAZARDOUS?
According to research, COCOA can help us fight cancer or heart disease for it contains an ingredient (catechin) which shield our bodies against various medical illness. It was also believed that eating chocolates serve as pain relievers, for it releases endorphins in the brain, and therefore prevent someone from getting migraine or extreme head ache. Studies also said that chocolates can even reduce anxiety and can even boost you appetite. What's more? Eating chocolates will not cause you to gain weight. Those findings might make everyone feel less defensive on being addicted to chocolates.
Well, if you'll eat pure COCOA, then I believe it will still be somewhat beneficial. It can help with your metabolism, etc. But chocolate bars, choco-flavored drinks, among the likes, have various ingredients (corn syrup, additional sugar, non-skimmed or skimmed milk, oil, or other fatty acids) that will NOT make CHOCOLATES healthy anymore.
Contrary to studies, chocolate bars have certain contents that have negative effects on our bodies. Come to think about it, eating chocolates excessively is one driver towards obesity and other physical ailments. Sugar, being one of the basic ingredients of a chocolate bar, could lead to having mood swings, osteoporosis, dental, blood sugar and weight problems.
Cocoa was also said to have a substance that has stimulants that could trigger people eating too much chocolates in becoming hypertensive. Since chocolate also has an element that has this anti-depressant effect, experts concluded that chocolates are addictive.
Chocolate also contains caffeine which will somehow help you in being on your toes at times. Too much caffeine can be harmful and might increase anxiety that might be lethal in the long run.
I am not asking anyone to STOP eating chocolates. I am not saying that chocolates will not do us any good but temporary satisfaction. I love chocolates! Just remember that everything that is TOO MUCH is bad. Moderation is the key.

mhei: You said it, moderation is definitely the key! Also white chocolate isn't really "chocolate" per se, it has no cocoa in it, so other than having a bit of calcium and iron in it, there really isn't much of a benefit to your health from eating white chocolate. Great hub, makes me want to go out and get a Yorkie bar.
