Do It Yourself Electric Car Conversions
52It is probably costing you well over $100 per week to buy gas just to go to work these days. If you could find a way to save the $100 in a few weeks time, wouldn’t you be able to find a better way to spend it? For some people that is rent or utility payments. Even if it is costing you somewhat less than that to drive to work, once you add it up, I am sure you could find a better way to spend that gas money savings. How do you save money on gas? This is where it gets fun. You can buy do-it-yourself electric car conversions kits and convert a couple of cars for your household or you can buy a kit and have a mechanic do it for you. The total cost will be determined on what you already have on hand, and what you need to buy to get this project done.
You may already have a car with a manual transmission that is suitable for conversion sitting in your garage (or carport, or yard or driveway) right now. If you don’t have one, or you do not want to deal with converting your personal car, you can pick up a car from a car salvage yard or find one in the paper that is cheap enough for you to do a conversion on. If you choose to do the electric car conversions yourself, there is plenty of information all over the Internet where you can get detailed instructions on how to do this project. If you know nothing about cars or don’t have spare time to do this project, you may want to consider having it done by a qualified mechanic.
You can save a few dollars if you do this yourself, but if you are not very well versed in how cars run or the mechanics of a car’s engine, you may waste money trying to do it yourself. It isn’t that it cannot be done; it is just that it is time consuming and you will be spending hours doing manual labor with electric car conversions. If you are comfortable with doing this project yourself, more power to you. If you are not comfortable with this kind of project, you can get help from friends who are more knowledgeable, or you can hire a mechanic to do the work right the first time. Once you get the costs out of the way, this conversion will pay for itself in relatively short time.
