enthinic classes
54A disadvantage is considered as an unfortunate circumstance which hinders a person's ability to succeed due to a spefic lack or need. Usually the scenerio of this situation presents it's self in the simplitic form of superiority over inferiority. Coincidentally, the fractional margin of people occuping elite sectons within the hiearchy of the social class system, often yields heavy influence over the many individuals who lack economic collateral. Subsequently, distinct segregated catergorizes are developed and each position is defined by the rate of income one earns. Therefore the effects of disproportionate levels of power allow the presence of social inequality to manifest. The impression of social inequality seems prevelant around many different facets of our society. However, the most apparent demostration of this negative issue is reflected within structure of the educational system.
One of the most controversial and debated subjects surrounding the schooling system, is the concern of economic status dictating the level of academic resouces and opprotunities one recieves from their educational institution. Research suggest students who are in low income situations do not recieve adaquate amounts of resources for education. Many minorites are considers to be at a disadvantage in comparison to the individuals who are more financially inclined and thus able to succeed in the classroom. One example which supports this claim seems evident within the distribution of funds amoung schools. Typically schools that are located in cities and or townships that posses higher property values will also have higher taxes dues, as result a considerate amount of funds are embedded within the local school districts, in order to further enhance and innovate the dynamics of education. Therefore, communites with wealthier income families are able to have access to higher degrees of education and provide cutting-edge advantages to their children as opposeed to less fortunte communites that rely upon regulated govermental aid for assistance.(Schools and Societies, Stevn Brint, pg 209)
Personally this current arrangement on how educational funds are distrubuted throuhgout stratified schools district seems to be a contributing cause to the increasing pace of the achievement gaps between minorites and nonminority students. Reflecting upon recent experiences with students at Chancellor Annex Elementary, there are a substancial amount of the students who lack the eagerness to learn the essential basics for fundenmental or formal education. Reason being these students who are subjected to harsh living conditions, which in turn enables them to become truly foucs with the task at hand as a result from aggravated stress conditions like poverty, substance abuse, neglect, or physical abuse. If the conditions of these unfortunate students were to improve, more so in the area of finance. Then perhaps the possibilty of a student able to improve his ability in the classroom setting makes it a very feasible reality.
According to the perspective from an informative and philisophical collegic professor named Walter Benn Micheals, he suggest that in order to rid the country of needless poverty more opprotunity must to be available to the less fortunate, which include the working and middle class. One of the critical issues Mr.Micheals raises is the idea that people are to close minded to the concept of inequality because so much emphasis is placed upon perserving their own idenity. In other words individuals are treated a particular way base upon how their outter exterior/skin. He aslo believes that more attention needs to be fixitated on poverty and not rasicm, because both of these component are basically one in the same.(www.classism.org/article2.php?id=8) If more focus is placed poverty than perhaps education will not be as bias. There needs to be a reform to how students are being taught in schools, in order to ensure that all studnets from all enthinic cultures can thrive equally. For the next couple of weeks compellig discussions surrounding the topic of ehinic class and education will occur on this blog segment, it s the author hope other individual will read and provide their own view on such a critical topic.
