Extreme Golf Courses
Golf travel is one of the most popular ways to spend a vacation, especially considering the number of different beautiful golf resorts located around the world. If you are looking for something that is a bit out of the ordinary, there are also numerous golf escapes that will certainly give you something to remember. If you are looking for a golf experience that takes extreme to a new level, read on for more details about how you can add some excitement to your next round of golf.
When it comes to playing an extreme game of golf, one of the best places to get started is the land down under. Here, you will find courses that are rife with greens you won’t likely find anywhere else. Combine that with the opportunity to see plenty of kangaroos while on your way to the 18th hole and you will be in store for a golf experience that is second to none.
The Outdoor Extreme Golf Championships
Longest Golf Course in the World
Nullarbor Links golf course in Australia is set to open in late 2008. When complete, the course will have 18 holes that are played across an astounding 800 miles. There will be approximately 50 miles between each hole. If you are interested in touring Australia, this is certainly an excellent way to go about it. Roadhouse stations are situated along the way so you can rest up between tee times. Or, find a discount Australia hotel in any location along the course.
The Iciest Golf Course in the World - Greenland
Most people complain about the hot weather when they head out for a game of golf. When you participate in the World Ice Golf Championship, which takes place each March in the small town of Uummannaq, you may just find yourself complaining about the cold. This is because the championship takes places a mere 370 miles from the Arctic Circle.
Those who feel up to it play some 36 holes on a course that was created from ice floes and glaciers. One of the most interesting aspects about this course, aside from the fact that it is made of ice, is the fact that the ice floes are continually changing. As a result, the course is different from one year to the next.
The Wildest Golf Course in the World - Kruger National Park, Africa
When you approach the Skukuza Golf Course one of the first things you are likely to notice is the prominent sign that reads “Dangerous Animals, Enter at your own Risk.” This is because the course is located right within the Kruger National Park.
Originally, the golf course was created for the use of the park staffers back in 1972, but now it is open to the public. If you thought that trying to get your ball out of the sand trap was enough of a hazard that is nothing compared to trying to play a round of golf without encountering a hippo or some other wild animal. Keep in mind that there are absolutely no fences surrounding the course so the chances of running into warthogs, zebras, lions, rhinos, leopards, elephants and other wildlife are quite good.
While other courses have a variety of interesting challenges, one of the more unique issues you will run into while playing on this course is trying to repair divots that have been made by some of the resident wildlife. Despite the fact that this course takes a walk on the wild side, standard golf dress is still required. Be sure to ask about proximity to the course when booking your discount Skukuza hotel.
The Northern Most Golf Course in the US - Fairbanks, Alaska
If you’re interested in playing an extreme game of golf without ever leaving the United States, you can find just what you are looking for at North Star Golf Club in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Look closely at the scoreboard when it is handed to you and you will see that it includes a wildlife sighting checklist for resident animals such as snowshoe hares, moose, coyotes, marmots and sandhill cranes. As if that is not enough excitement for you, if you happen to visit during the summer, you can play practically 24-hours per day.
During the summer season, the sun shines almost around the clock and consequently, the club remains open 20 hours each day. The course does close briefly from 2am to 6am for maintenance.

The Only Trans-National Golf Course
Western Texas is the site of the only golf course in the entire world that actually crosses the national border and dips across the Rio Grande River and into Mexico. Lajitas was once a military town, but it has now become a popular resort area featuring fine dining and private haciendas.

Some really challenging courses! Maybe I could get my wife to caddie for me ;-)
You will find some really extreme golfing experiences if you ever get to play golf in Japan! Not expensive like most people seem to think. Having Mt. Fuji in the background all day long makes a great vista!
Hi folks,
I'm looking for some links to free resources for quick short games. Anyone having any idea where to find free recsources?
Golf and golf courses never cease to amaze! I've had occasion to play in Ladakh at a height of 11000 ft above sea level. Instead of greens, it has browns. The 'greens' are made of sand, smoothed down with used engine oil. And your drive might go 400 yards because of the rare atmosphere!
There are some interesting ones in the desert sands of Rajasthan too. One has to carry a small mat along for use on the fairways. Just pick up the ball and replace it on the mat at the same place. Some of the greens are again actually browns!
Awesome courses, thanks for sharing.
They are some truly amazing golf courses, I struggle to get around my local one.
