If you really think of opting for facial piercing, just get to know the tips on how to upkeep the facial piercing. With these tips, you can refrain yourself from getting infected while retaining the charm of your face.

Tip # 1: It is very likely that your lip/nose/tongue may appear to be puffed up soon after you do the piercing. There might be a bit of bleeding too. But don’t worry. A white color fluid may also ooze out from the point of piercing. Understand that this is very normal and natural. The intumesced portion and the pain due to the piercing will become normal within a few days.

Tip # 2: Try to minimize movement of your mouth if you have gone in for a tongue piercing. If you limit the movements of your mouth for the first few days, you would be able to see that the point of piercing does not swell much. When the wound is in the process of healing, it’s very likely to hurt you more. So smash whatever you eat till the wound heals completely.

Tip # 3: Ensure that you keep yourself away from the use of tobacco, alcohol and chewing gums till you completely recover from the wound. If you do not do so, the point of piercing may not heal properly and this might also lead to infection. If you are a smoker, just refrain from smoking for sometime till the wound heals completely. You would be able to sacrifice the use of tobacco and chewing gums if you just think of beauty that your facial piercing is going to give you.

Tip # 4: Don’t toy with your new jewel soon after the piercing. You will definitely have the temptation to touch and play with it since it’s a new addition to your face. But if you try touching and meddling with the jewel that you are wearing at the point of facial piercing, it could lead to friction and that would result in infection. So be very careful at least for the first few days.

Tip # 5: Just be sure that the jewel is tightly fastened to your facial piercing. See to it that its neither too tight nor too loose. If it is very tight, then it would hurt and worsen the wound further. If it is fastened loosely, then the piercing may widen and you would end up in unwanted trouble.
