As per the latest reports, over 40 million Americans suffer from adult dyslexia, which makes about 15% of the entire U.S. population. It means that one out of seven Americans is suffering from some kind of learning disabilities. The Dyslexia Scientific American states that 20% of school children are dyslexic. However, school-aged children are not the only ones that have dyslexia.

Dyslexia In Kids And Adults

People usually assume that such things are found only in children. Well, it is true that such problems usually occur right from the time of birth and the same child grows up affected with the same problem, because dyslexia is a life-long condition but not all cases are diagnosed in childhood. Here, it is very important for you to understand that dyslexia in children is something where the hope lies with the parents and teachers of the child in how they respond to such problems. The case of adult dyslexia is different in the sense that we may have to help ourselves. There are certain tests that can be taken in order to find out whether you are also suffering from some kind of learning disabilities. If you discover some symptoms of dyslexia, then it is important that you stop second guessing yourself and get tested. In most cases, people with dyslexia usually try to hide their disabilities. Always remember that by doing such things, you can fool others but not yourself.

Famous People With Dyslexia

It may sound strange but adult dyslexia has been a battle for many people. There is a long list of famous people who despite being dyslexic achieved enormous success in their lives. The list includes Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Michael Faraday, and many others. The list also award winner such as Pierre Curie who was a Physicist and was awarded the 1903 Nobel Prize. And some current examples as well, such as Tom Cruise (actor), Cher (singer and actress), Sir Richard Branson (entrepreneur), Anderson Cooper (American journalist), Jackie Stewart (racing driver), and even Charles Schwab (founder of U.S. brokerage firm).

Most Of Us Do Not Know That We Are Dyslexics

Despite all the efforts made by the latest technologies to educate people regarding dyslexia, it is really unfortunate to know that 90-95% of people with adult dyslexia do not even know that their different learning disabilities have their root cause in dyslexia. When we talk about dyslexia, we do not think about ourselves. We think about others. It is because of such reasons that the federal law has now made it mandatory for every public school district to conduct the adult dyslexia test.
