Garfield learned to read at three years old.
President Garfield could write with both hands, in fact he could write in several languages with both hands. He used to impress party guest by writing greek in one hand and latin in the other, at the same time.
Garfield was a teacher and president of a university before becoming president.
He was president less than four months before being shot, he lived for 11 weeks after this.
