Fairy Tattoos: The Symbolism and Meaning

Fairies have been in western lore, mythology and religion since ancient times. Typically these cute little winged creatures are part of a more naturalistic type of religion more of a pagan feel. However, many Christians today still hold some lov at least if not blief in a fairy. Very akin to angels which have more of a Christian religious slant to them. Fairies again are more of a naturalistic or nature based relgion. Although, today fairies have lost much of the historical significance and meaning that they once held and have now just become a popular icon for something that is cute, sweet, helpful and possible even a little magical.

Why Are Fairy Tattoos So Popular

If you are not sure about fairies just think of the greatest fariy of all times, Tinkerbell" from the Walt Disney movie and story of Peter Pan. Tinkerbell in fact has probably popularized the whole belief and draw of fairies as cute, sexy little things with wings.

So what is the symbolism behind these and why are they so popular as tattoos? At this point there are a lot of different meanings. People with fairy tattoos each have their own personal reason and interpretation for getting the tattoo. It could be that the freedom of a fairy was something they wanted in their life. THey could have just htought that fairies were cute and small and something they really liked or it could have been the only female tattoo design avalible in flash at the tattoo studio they went to. There doesn't seem to be any universally agreed upon symbolic meaning behind the fairy tattoo. Some feel it represents freedom, other beauty and others still a new step or start on life.

Either way here are some great fairy tattoo designs that you can get ideas from. Look at the fairy tattoo pictures to gather ideas but don't just copy someone else's orginal tattoo design. Instead gather ideas from the fairy tattoo pictures and design galleries and then make your own.
