So how is fake grass supposed to beautify your home? If you drive down a typical block of homes, one of the first things you notice, besides the house itself, is the lawn out in the front of the house. The next thing you may notice is the different landscaping that each yard has. If you want to make your house look great, one of the easiest things you can do is to make sure the lawn looks nice. I'm sure you have seen what bad lawns look like. You know the ones I'm talking about, where it looks like no one lives there. That or the people who do live there never heard of a lawnmower. Having fake grass can solve this problem.

We've all seen those commercials or scenes on television where on a beautiful sunny Saturday, a bunch of guys would step out on their lawn with their lawnmowers and bright colored shirts and shorts to cut down the grass with a big grin on their face while waving at all the other guys down their block doing the same thing. I don't know about you, but I have never seen that happen in real life. Do people really like to mow their lawn on a nice sunny day? I can think of a million better things to do. However, this is something that must be done if you want to keep your house looking good.

Fake Grass for the Lazy?

It may be harsh, but people will judge you by the cover, in this case, the look of your yard. Uncut grass makes you look like a lazy person who doesn't care about his yard. I'm sure you have seen homes like this, where the grass is so high you can barely see the front door. If you have a lot of dead grass or empty patches near and there, it can make your home look pretty bad as well even the grass is short.

Look at the pictures below. I'm sure you've seen many of these types of yards before. They can look quite unattractive. If you are trying to sell your home, one of the easiest things to do to make it look more valuable is to increase the curb appeal. This basically means to make anything that you can see from the curb better such as the landscaping and the house paint. Simply repainting your house can increase the curb appeal by several thousands of dollars.

Fake Grass Difference

So since mowing the lawn is a boring tedious job, one thing you can do is buy fake grass, also known as artificial grass or synthetic grass. When these things first came out, they didn't look so good. You could obviously tell they were fake by just looking at them. As the years went by, they started making more realistic ones. Today, it's hard to tell if it's real or fake by just looking at it. Some are made to even feel like real grass. Look at the picture below and see the difference using fake grass can have on the look of your home.

Benefits of Using Fake Grass

One reason why many people would not want to get fake grass is because it costs money to buy and install them. Well, if you look at it in the long run, it can actually save you money. Think about it. If you want to keep your lawn looking nice, you will have to make sure they get enough water and also make sure you keep them cut to a certain length. Just the water cost of keeping your lawn looking nice can add up. With artificial grass, you don't have to water it, therefore, you will be saving a ton of money on your water bill.

Another cost is maintenance cost. This would include both the money spent to mow your lawn as well as the time invested in having to do it yourself. Wouldn't you rather spend your day relaxing or doing something more fun than taking care of your lawn? Granted, some people enjoy maintaining their lawn but for most people, it's not exactly their hobby. So as you can see, using fake grass will actually save you money and time in the long run so the investment that you make to beautify your home will pay off.

The Problem with Fake Grass

There are some issues with artificial grass that you want to be aware of. One is that depending on the type that you buy, they can look green, I mean really green. The can look way too perfect and can even be seen as a bit cheesy. Your neighbors may look at your lawn and think, "It looks nice, but it's fake, therefore, they're too lazy to maintain real grass." If something like this is a concern to you, then you may want to reconsider getting fake grass. You can do other things with your yard instead like put in cement, rocks, flowers, etc. But if grass is what you want, and maintaining the grass is what you don't want, then getting artificial grass is probably the best way to go.

Another issue is that over time, depending on the type of fake grass you get, they can wear out and look like balled up green hair. Like any product that has to stay out in the sun and rain day after day, it may wear down and even give off its green color. To avoid this issue, you should go for more quality types of artificial grass. It really depends on what you're using it for though. If you're just filling in a patch of grass near your patio or something, then any type will do. If you are going to use it to cover a large yard however, go for quality.

Another, more serious problem with fake grass is that studies have been shown that some types can contain a high level of lead. The material that some of these synthetic grass is made of can, overtime, deteriorate leaving by products that may contain high level of lead. This is something you definitely want to look into especially if you have kids who will be playing on the grass.

This type of grass is quite common however. You can find them on football fields and even in city parks. Makers of artificial grass have stated that over the decades that these products have been around, no one has ever gotten sick due to any levels of lead. Some parents are still concerned however and have forbidden their kids from playing on fake grass. Seeing that these things are used everywhere, especially anything involving sports like football, soccer, and baseball, whether or not it's safe is still up for debate.

Either way you look at it, having this type of grass can be a great time and money saver, while at the same time, make your lawn look nice, green, and clean.
