When was HubPages launched?

HubPages was actually started BEFORE the internet was invented. Unfortunately it proved to be too impractical to get HubScore to work properly with the cork board and thumbtacked notes.

The development of the Internet made bringing HubPages to the masses easier than this proposed prototype.

How is HubScore calculated?

The HubScore is a proprietry algorithm which, if explained to the average person, would cause their head to explode. Which is why they'll never discuss or reveal the details. Not so much to avoid gaming of the system, but HubPages Inc doesn't want to have a global crisis of exploded heads on their conscience.

What happens if a hub is Flagged?

Hubs can be flagged by members of the community for breaking the Terms and Conditions of the site. For violations such as Adult content, Gambling, Spam, Low Quality, Poor Dress Sense, Deceptively Tagged or Titled, Not Believing in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Not written in English, Spelling Mistakes, Duplicate Content and Other. Seeing that pretty much all the bases are covered we assume that "other" is that you think that the Hub Author is retarded or you don't like the look of the Hubbers profile picture.

Being flagged doesn't get your hub automatically blocked or suspended, it sends it to a queue which is then verified by a QA team. They're on the job 24/7.

HubPages Inc considered trained monkeys but found that the laws in place for animal welfare are far too strict and the only animal that is allowed to be legally treated inhumanely are in fact humans.

Duplicate Filtering

Duplicate content is punished by Search Engines. In fact Search Engines such as Google take the issue of Duplicate Content so seriously that they have teams of enforcers that go to the head office of sites like HubPages and Squidoo and Associated Content and beat up the staff members and throw around tables and chairs to get the point across. After the first such visit in the early days HubPages got serious about duplicate content and have made a determined effort to stamp it out. Despite their checks and measures to stop duplicate content as soon as it is published they still live in fear of another Search Engine thug attack so they also changed their head office location and have unlisted phone numbers.

When a hub is suspected of having duplicate content the Hub Technician makes a copy of the page and runs it against the entire Internet, which they make a full back-up of every day.

Adult Content

HubPages doesn't allow 'adult content'. Which is a grown-up way of saying 'porn'.

HubPages policy is that if you wouldn't be looking at the images in front of your mother or grandma then you shouldn't be publishing it at HubPages.

If you don't have a mother nearby to check your hubs before you publish, pretend that there's a little man living inside the keyboard who monitors your internet browsing. He's also known to check the keys for traces of DNA.

Hubbing is illegal in some states

And also a few countries.

While it is unfortunate, some even say a gross violation of human rights, how you hub in the privacy of your own home should be your own business.

While most follow the 'don't ask, don't mention how many hubs you've published' unwritten rule, avoid hubbing in public, as the consequences (and ensuing arrest and incarceration) can be embarrassing for both you and your family.

How did HubPages get its name?

Originally the small team of internet savvy web visionaries were going to call the venture PugPages. But fearing an overabundance of Sexy Pug Picture Galleries they decided to play it safe and use the word 'hub'.

George Clooney was one of the founding members and in charge of marketing. But he had a terrible work ethic and wasn't as good looking as Ryan Hupfer, so they sacked him and brought Ryan in on the team. The pug fetish got to stay though.
