My Experiences In Feng Shui

THE INTRODUCTION AND IDENTIFYING THE NEED
Feng-Shui, they say, has the power to destroy poverty, restore health, improve relationships, and also to overcome obstacles to progress in one's life. I got acquainted with Feng-Shui for the very first time via a newspaper article way back in the year 1996. Prior to this I had never heard of Feng-Shui.
Two large Chinese characters, one representing wind, the other representing water were superimposed on the topmost part of a picture which showed Boy George performing. The picture appeared in the "lifestyles" section of a local newspaper. The caption right on top referred to Boy George involving himself in Feng-Shui. The article contained a brief explanation of Feng-Shui followed by the names of some famous figures who were reported to follow it's principles.
When I had finished reading the article, I said to myself, "right ... this is exactly what I have been waiting for" ... "here is my free lunch."
I wasted no time in procuring books on Feng-Shui and almost immediately started applying the principles contained within.
Let me now attempt to give you a very brief explanation of what I gathered after learning and applying the principles of Feng-Shui for over a period of one year.
INTRODUCTION TO FENG SHUI
COLOR AND FENG SHUI
THE SYSTEM AND THE APPLICATION
Feng-Shui means wind and water. It is a set of beliefs which is supposed to provide solutions to shortcomings in prosperity, health, relationships, and career. Feng-Shui is built around the belief in the existence of a kind of energy called "Chi." According to Feng-Shui, certain areas in one's residence or workplace represent certain aspects of the occupants' lives. For instance the corner which is diagonally to the left of a room or office in relation to the entrance, is the area which represents wealth. All you have to do in order to enhance your prosperity is to cause the chi energy to flow to this area.
Conversely, there is also a form of energy called "Sha." Sha is emitted by sharp and pointed objects. Dilapidated buildings, and objects placed in an unorderly fashion also emit Sha energy. Sha energy does just the opposite of what Chi does.
In addition, the arranging of furniture, the directions faced, the positions of the doors and windows, the colors of the walls all have some significance and involvement. Going into detail is definitely beyond the scope of this article.

THE FIRST STEPS
Feng shui masters use various methods to attract chi to the required areas in order to infuse luck to whatever that particular area represents.
The recommended methods include installing bright lights, placing a fish tank, and placing devices which produce pleasant sounds, like wind chimes.
On the other hand, Sha could be blocked using curtains or reflected using mirrors.
I believe I assumed right when I figured out the best way to harness the power of Feng Shui was to enhance the flow of Chi to the required areas whilst blocking Sha to those particular areas. Since I had several books,
I had a task of picking up points from all these books, and categorizing the the tasks and the sequence in which they had to be performed.
I had to assume a mathematical method to do so. It was not the least easy. However, the rewards that were in store were far too attractive to let go. At least that's what I thought!
I started off by enhancing the wealth-area in my office by placing a bright incandescent lamp on a stool right there.
This was followed up by placing speakers on a higher level and continuously playing Chinese instrumental music which contained sounds similar to wind chimes.
TAKING ACTION
I did install wind chimes too, in the prescribed areas. I re-arranged the furniture, paying attention to the directions that I was required to face. There were recommendations on where to install the fax machine and the telephone, and on which part of the table important documents be placed.
The effect of the surrounding buildings also had to be taken care of. Pasting reflecting paper on the window panes to reflect harmful Sha, painting the interior walls with colors typical of the requirements, like warding off the ill effects caused by some of the surrounding buildings ... well this is just a very brief description of what I did!
Boy! was it not fun? I did this all by myself ... gradually ... over a period of nearly fifteen months.
Whilst being involved in Feng-Shui, I also learnt that in countries like Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, Feng-Shui is much sought after and is a requirement for any business as much as a bank account is! I also learnt that Feng-Shui masters charge up to US$100.00 per square foot when assigned the task of doing a Feng-Shui assessment for a business.

Well, to be downright honest, what Feng-Shui did for me was this.
After fifteen months of hard work, and wasting time, all what Feng-Shui did for me was, it confirmed my greatest fear, "there ain't no free lunch."

Another name for Chi is Prana. Meditation is supposed to bring about the desired result by drawing in Prana energy, also referred to as Prana Shakthi.
IMPORTANT FOOTNOTES:
CHI
The word Chi is written as "Ki" by the Japanese, whereas the Chinese write it as "Qi" when English script is used for that purpose.
REIKI
Chi has multiple functions. You encounter Chi not only in Feng Shui, but also in Martial Arts, and in a form of natural healing called REIKI, which originated in Japan.

I know nothing about Vastu. By the time I got to know about the existance of Vastu, I did not want to get involved because Feng Shui had already extracted much of my time and energy. I guess you are right in saying that faith is what actually produces the desired results. It is faith which acts, whereas Feng Shui could be just the placebo. Curiously enough I did have faith! Well ...
As for statistical data, there is'nt any! LOL! The before and after pix are exactly the same. Anyways, thanks for the comment.
Today I wrote my hubmob on Counterfeit Products but my second choice was going to be on Feng Shui Products because it is an excellent keyword. I love wind and water and chimes but that's all I could relate to when I saw the words Feng Shui. So thankyou quicksand for writing about and sharing your experiences about the Feng Shui principles. I love to learn about new things each day.
Hi Dottie, thanks a lot for your valuable comment. I understand that you too have had some experience in Feng Shui. I am looking forward to your hub on the subject.
This is a cool hub I have never heard of Feng Shui, I could use some harmany in my life, How long do you do this everyday or is it just when you feel in the mood.
Hi JB, well, Feng Shui involves re-arranging furniture and stuff in your abode or office to "create harmony" with nature. It also suggests placing certain kinds of ornaments in certain areas of your abode which represent wealth, health etc. These actions are supposed to bring in a type of energy called chi, which, in turn is supposed to enhance your wealth, health, relationships etc.
These actions are performed just once. Once the arrangement is set, that's it. Sit back and watch your wealth, health, and realationships soar to heavenly heights.
At least that's what the books on Feng Shui say. There are guys called Feng Shui masters, who can be consulted for a fee, and who will visit your office or residence and give you the recommendation on what to place where. Of course their fees are exorbitant.
I myself learned FS from various books and applied these theories in my office over a period of nearly one and a half years. However, I found that it was a totally useless exercise. My conclusion is that Feng Shui is total bull!
Anyways, that should not prevent you from exploring the topic. If you are keen, go ahead and check it out and form your own conclusions. It is just more knowledge that you need in order decide for yourself.
Thanks for your visit and comment, JB.
"This was followed up by placing speakers on a higher level and continuously playing Chinese instrumental music which contained sounds similar to wind chimes."
You should know that you can't fool feng shui with technology. The Chi can tell that you are using fake wind chimes, and will flow in the opposite direction.
"all what Feng-Shui did for me was, it confirmed my greatest fear, "there ain't no free lunch." "
Consider that *maybe* if you didn't do the feng shui, you could have lost your job, invested all your money on Lehman Brothers, and received a foreclosure letter from your bank. These are bad economic times ya know? The status quo is a good result in my mind. So maybe feng shui *does* work after all ;)
Cool! That's a great way of justifying a belief system! However, results is what matters at the end of the day. In my business I did everything right, I really did work. I did not do the same thing twice. I tried newer methods, I stuck to ethics. I brought FS into the scene just to enhance my chances of great success
If F-Shui was real, there would be many real success stories and more people would rush to FS on all fours and totally neglect other things like enhancing business awareness, working, experimenting, and so on. They would set up a FS system and let it work.
However I am glad I learnt it, and I am glad I tried it, otherwise I would have continued to believe that I was missing a great tool.
Two months ago I removed a convex mirror from just outside my balcony door. This was "reflecting sha back to where it came from!"
Thanks for your comments. :)
Hey!
I think Feng Shui has been a total flop in India as per my best knowledge. There are different schools in this stream and one needs to change ones' house quite often !!!!
Is it true ?
Subir
When the concept is total bull, it will naturally be a total flop irrespective of the location. I have yet to meet someone who has benefitted from Feng Shui.
