Fighting Knives

Fighting knives is a broad category that includes any knife made for fighting, combat, and self defense. A fighting knife is usually a large knife, with a blade of 5-8" that is designed for piercing and slashing.

Fighting knives can be used for self defense, outdoor sports, military uses, law enforcement, and pretty much any use that requires a large sturdy knife. Most fighting knives are not suitable for skinning game, though, as the blade shape would tend to rip the meat.

Fighting Knife Features

Here some features to look for in a knife suitable for fighting.defense:

Blade shape: Look for a strong point with excellent penetration. Tanto and clip pointsare the most popular.

Folding vs Fixed blade: In almost all cases, you will want a fixed blade knife, for several reasons. First, folding blade knives are inherantly weaker, since they have a moving joint. Secondly, it takes longer to draw a folding blade knife. Thirdly, folding blade knives are harder to grip safely and securely enough to fight with.

Handle: Look for a handle with a superb grip, with a bolster/guard that will protect your fingers from the blade.

Blade length: The blade needs to be long enough to easily pierce deep enough to kill quickly, through clothing or other impediments. 6-9" is a good blade length for most fighting knives.

Fighting Knife Laws

Laws regarding what types of knives it is legal to own, carry, or use vary widely from state to state. Most states have laws restricting what types of knives you may own or carry, as well as laws restricting carrying knives concealed. It is important that you check your state's laws before you buy a fighting knife.

The knives that you are showcasing are quite beautiful (I know, I probably should say something like dangerous, deadly etc,) but they are quite interesting and would make a good addition to a collection.
