Look at the credit or loan terms of your existing credit providers. Notice the date and the amount in the terms. Whether you choose to pay in total or the minimum payment make sure the payment reaches the lender by the date noted in the terms. If you are paid on the 15th of the month but the payment is due on the 1st call the lender and ask for a change of date.

Notify the lender of address changes. If you are moving make sure your lender has the new changes. Even if it's just a temporary change you lender should be notify. Special Tip: If you are have credit problem do not open additional lines of credit.

Reducing your Debt

With a simple worksheet you can determine the best solution for getting out of debt. Example: If you are paying $1200 dollars for car insurance each year, you can shop around for a cheaper alternative. If a saving results you can apply those funds to an outstanding balance. There are many free worksheets online, but if you're a DIY start with listing your fixed expenses and work your way down.

If you are denied credit make sure you ask why - so you can correct the problem.
