What's going on with the Wii?

The Nintendo Wii is quite arguably the most sought after game console. Much like the Nintendo DS Lite after its initial release, the Nintendo Wii console is hard to find anywhere. You can look online, at brick and mortar stores and even at garage sales but have little luck finding the Nintendo Wii in stock. When the DS Lite was released, Nintendo held back units to increase demand. Eventually, within six to nine months, the handheld gaming system was widely available except during the holiday shopping season. Even now, you can walk into a game store and find one to bring home for yourself.

However, the Nintendo Wii system, despite being released over two years ago, is still hard to find. Consumers have been jumping to get their hands on one, find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time and do not know how to track down a Nintendo Wii for sale in their area. This guide will serve as a way to not only track down a Nintendo Wii but head home with one to play. While this is not a sure fire way to track Nintendo Wii availability, these tips and tricks will help keep you ahead of other consumers trying to track down a system for themselves.

How do you find a Wii?

There are two primary ways to find a Nintendo Wii: In store or online. In most cases, finding a Wii in store is easier of the two. When it comes to online purchases, any number of things can occur when a web site has the Nintendo Wii in stock. When it comes down to it, if you want a Nintendo Wii console, you will need to fight for it. Tooth and nail. At this point, there really is no other way to track one down and call it your own.

Nintendo limits the release of the Wii for several reasons. The primary being that by keeping up the hype and forcing people to scramble for them keeps the Nintendo Wii system in popular demand. Nintendo Wii availability is frustrating. These tips and tricks will help you track one done, bring one home and be one of the few to play the system day in and day out. While rumor has it Nintendo will begin distributing the system in wider release come the holidays, for now, it is necessary to do whatever it takes to bring a Nintendo Wii system home.

How to get a Wii at a retail store

If you are trying to track down a Nintendo Wii in a retail store, there are a few things you can do to make sure you are in the right place at the right time. There are also a few myths that need to be debunked based on what retail associates might have told you about when and how they receive their Nintendo Wii console shipments. Most retail associates are required to stick to company policy on when and how Wiis come in.

First and foremost, make a list of all the retailers in your area you are willing to drive to in order to get a Nintendo Wii. Once you have this list, make sure it includes their hours of operation, their primary phone number, and if possible, the dates they receive truck shipments of merchandise. Most associates will tell you that they do not receive Nintendo Wiis via regular shipments, but in most cases, this is false. Nintendo Wii consoles will arrive in regular truck deliveries bundled in with other merchandise. In most cases, associates will not know if Wiis are at their store until they unload them off the truck. In other cases, when a truck arrives, potential stock is entered into the system based on the truck's inventory and a store will know how many Wiis to expect on that truck once it is unloaded.

Since truck shipments vary from store-to-store, and time-to-time, there is no set time during the day when a store could potentially have the Nintendo Wii in stock. This means that one you narrow down the days a retailer receives shipments, you can call on and off during the day to determine if they have any in. While it may seem annoying to do so, it is your best chance to track down a random Wii shipment. If you call before the store opens and you discover they have it, you can wait outside the doors for it to open to purchase one.

In other instances, a store will know ahead of time when it will be receiving a Nintendo Wii shipment. Usually, they are held for a promotion in a weekly ad. If this is the case, the store will generally hand out vouchers before it opens the day the ad starts. When people know about these promotions, they will line up early and often times camp out. If you really want a Nintendo Wii system, that is the way to do it if you know in advance.

By continuously being vigilant with regards to the retail stores around your area, you can track down a Nintendo Wii. It takes patience, dedication and a little bit of luck. But as long as you continue trying, you will be able to find a Nintendo Wii for sale somewhere in your area.

How to get a Wii online

If shopping online is more your style, there are a few things you can do to ensure you get your hands on a Nintendo Wii for sale at your favorite web site. First off, make sure if you are not signed up at the web site that you go through its registration process. The last thing you want is to have to sign up for a new account during your purchase. In many cases, since hundreds, if not thousands, of shoppers are trying to purchase the Nintendo Wii console in your shopping bag. If you are stalled by having to register, someone else could finish a transaction and scoop your Wii.

If your web site of choice offers one-click shopping or a similar concept, like Amazon.com's web site, make sure to set-up your details with it. That way when you are checking out with your Nintendo Wii system, you can breeze through the confirmation screens and be that much closer to owning the system.

When shopping online, you have to be quick. That is the key to purchasing anything with limited quantities, not just the Wii. You have to be careful that if you are shopping at smaller web site that the site does not go down when swamped by consumers trying to purchase a Nintendo Wii. If this happens, there is nothing you can do to hold your console, so if you are serious about purchasing a Nintendo Wii system, focusing your sights on a larger scale web site is the best strategy.

While finding a Nintendo Wii online can be done, it often proves too cumbersome for those who are just trying to shop online. Since word of mouth is easily spread person-to-person, finding out which web site might have Wiis and when is harder to accomplish. However, if you strike gold and find yourself online at the right place and right time, these above tips will help you stay in the game and possibly see a Nintendo Wii console on your doorstep in the near future.

What do you do now that you have a Wii?

It is important that after you get your hands on a Nintendo Wii console that you take the proper steps to take care of it. After all, it took you how long to get it? What happens when your Nintendo Wii runs into a problem or cannot be fixed? Even though your Wii is covered under Nintendo's warranty, that does not mean you will instantly find yourself with a new one if you need to fulfill your warranty. Therefore, it is essential that from day one you take the very best care of your Nintendo Wii system.

There are many things you can do for your Nintendo Wii. First and foremost, you need to protect the lens of the Nintendo Wii system from dust, dirt and grime whenever possible. Do not smoke, or leave the system near a window. If you have a disc lens cleaner, in most cases you can use it to clean the lens as well. Check the instructions to the lens cleaner and ensure it can be used for video game consoles. Lens errors, disc read errors and other problems running a disc are the primary cause for returns when it comes to the Nintendo Wii.

Next, you want to ensure you keep your Nintendo Wii console out of harm's way. This includes where you store it, how you move it around and how physical you get with the console. Lots of us have become angry when we lose a game, thrown a controller or kicked our console; you want to avoid this type of behavior to keep it in working order.

By taking care of your Nintendo Wii, you can guarantee it will continue working long after you have found one. After all, you do not want to be stuck searching for another one if something goes wrong and Nintendo continues to hold back production. This alone should encourage you to take very good care of your Nintendo Wii system.

I love the Wii, I am afraid if I buy one though that it will increase my carpal tunnel. It made my hands go numb when I played the boxing game. It is very addictive.

I had a hard time finding a Wii for my daughter for Christmas. I finally bought one from Craigslist since I couldn't seem to get one from Costco since they sold out so quickly.

I'm looking for a Wii fit now as well:)
