Not all keywords were created equal. And I didn't just say "good keywords" when I wrote that title. You see, I've come to understand an important distinction with key phrases used by searchers in Google and in the other major search engines, Yahoo! and MSN.

Keywords and key phrases can reveal the intention behind the search. What is a person searching for? Five years ago it may have been "free information" as in a wiki or an online encyclopaedia. But The Internet has evolved now to include nearly every business supplying goods and services, and the old yellow pages books are slowly strangling themselves with high costs and the obvious inability to provide editing of business listings.

Intention, wants, needs, deep desires and wishes are driving forces by consumers in every marketplace. So a sophisticated SEM or Search Engine Marketer must now learn what are the "buying keywords" that are being used to search for his product. Which phrases reflect an intention to act - -  not just to seek free information?

Make no mistake. Target the wrong keywords and you'll likely go rapidly out of business. You might get a few visitors to your web site, but will they be "buying visitors"? And how can this problem be solved? What system could possibly show us the best, most profitable keywords and phrases for businesses to bid on?

An Indiana SEO software designer recently came up with a very smart solution to this problem of targeting the best words. He invented a tiny plugin for the Mozilla Firebox browser that phones home and appears to talk to a massive database. You simply browse Google search results as usual - using Firefox - and the software will automatically place a "view keywords" button below any Google Adwords advertiser's listing. If you then click the button, it will popup a window that shows you the *keywords* they're bidding on!

That is not all. It has a lot of statistics including the average (and maximum) cost per click, the number of clicks daily for each keyword and the amount spent daily. The biggest benefit to you is that these words being exposed are the result of long hard testing and research. They are nearly all high converting, highly profitable, "buying keywords" because they have survived the fires of testing, survived the failures and the losses. Yet they remain there at the top of Google ad listings!

I am currently testing to see if they work just as well in natural, organic search as they do in PPC or pay per click. I'm almost certain that these are the real oil, pure gold keywords.
