Sometimes a computer user cannot afford to purchase software for their system. They rely on trial ware and shareware. Trial ware allows a user to download a program and utilize it for a length of time. Once that time is up, they either have to purchase the software or move on to something else. Shareware is often distributed for free for a particular reason, either through a giveaway or promotion. Shareware is generally a fully functional program, but depending on the promotion, it may be more like a trial ware set-up.

If you visit a web site like download.com or CNET, you can search for software you are looking for. You can also search for software based on its status as trial ware, shareware or freeware. These web sites offer reviews, feedback and other information for you to determine if the software will work for you. Since these are free downloads, you can also check out the software for yourself to see if it will work for you.

In other cases, some of the big name software companies offer trial ware or other forms of their paid versions for users to download and try out. While it does not serve as a long-term solution, it does give potential buyers the chance to check out the software and make sure it is right for you. This gives you valuable experience with it so that you do not get stuck paying for something that is not going to work. It also gives you the first hand knowledge needed to determine if you should pay or not.

If you are still out of luck finding alternatives to shareware, you may want to begin giving serious consideration to purchasing the actual program you are looking for. While you may be paying a lot more than you bargained for, you will be able to continue using the program for the long-term and will be able to reinstall it down the line to use in the future. If you still cannot find the right program and cannot afford to buy a full version, relying on trial ware and freeware may be your alternative for now.
