Fire Ants are a variety of stinging ants with over 280 species worldwide. they have common including ginger ants and tropical fire ants.

Fire ants can be distinguished with other ants by their copper brown head and body with darker abdomen.

Fire ants often attacks small animals like rat and kill them. It also creates problem to the human as it g enerally stays ina colony with huge numbers.

How to Get Rid:

  • Use Advance Select for Fire Ants. You dont need a lot take care of the entire mound. You have to spray regularly to keep the neighbour ants to come back again. Treat the mounds with one spoon full each and spray around the area regularly.
  • "Over and Out" is a general product that you broadcas over your entire lawn. It kills all the fire ants and prevents from trying to relocate somewhere else in your lawn. It is a chemical but safe to use in a yard that has pets.

In Apartment:

  • Instead of using sprays you can use bait traps. These traps are plastic and works really good. All you have to do is make sure that your pets (dogs, cats) doesn't play around it. I will recomment the Raid Double control Ant Baits.

In Car:

  • You can use Taro Ant Bait. It's a super sweet gel that attracts fire ants and squeeze a dime sized amount right next to their trial and leave them alone for few hours. They will take it back to their nest and it will also kill the ant stream. Then clean out your car and vacuum it.

Near Pond:

  1. Ants cannot digest oatmeal and if you spread oatmeal around the mound it will kill them and not just drive them away. Oatmeal is not bad for fish.
  2. Place a mixer of 50% borax with 50% sugar at various areas near the mounds. The fire ants will take the stuff to the colonies fro food and will all be killed.
  3. Bleach is an all-around good varmint killer. Bleach will kill most anything, including color in fabrics.
  4. To get rid of ants naturally use mint leaves or bay leaves. For some reason ants can't stand the smell of those two herbs. Try spreading those leaves around the mounds.

I have also heard of people spreading flour near ant hills. I have tried it a few times and it seems to work. The ants move elsewhere.

Trsmd, you can do better than this... I mean, please stop posting comments like this in my hubs. I know the outsiders do that, but I wouldn't like it from a fellow hubber and my friend(can I say so?)

I can't take it as any kind of humour even if that was what you wanted it to be.

Lol Okay. I'm aware of it, you can see that I didn't deny that comment in my hub. It's still showing. The thing is that some visitors can misunderstand it and it will be much worse if I had replied for it Lol.

Cheers!!!

(Often we do see google ads saying 'actress without saree' which is a tricky set of keywords)

Thanks for the natural killers, as we have the ants, but hesitate using poisons of any kind!! I will try to oatmeal and bleach and see what happens.
