With 1 GB flash drives, 4 GB DVD discs, 10 GB USB drives, 50 GB Blu-Ray discs, 160 GB iPods, and online storage, people can choose from a variety of options to meet their portability needs. Which solution works for you?

Think Big,

but Carry a Small Stick

1 GB to 6.5 GB

Kingston Data Traveler 1 GB

& 4 GB USB Flash Drive

Kingston's USB stick comes in a pocket size, keychain ready form, and can be vouched for by hundreds of positive online reviews. For those who only need enough to carry around documents, a few PowerPoints, and perhaps some multimedia files, they will not find a better product, at a better price, and backed by a bigger name.

Sony DVD+RW 4X Rewritable

4.5 GB Disc

For those still owning CD wallets and can concurrently claim a DVD-RW drive, they might want to consider a slightly cheaper alternative to carrying around a USB stick. Sony, the world's electronic powerhouse, offers a very reliable single disc that, combined with real time formatting methods, can act just as well as a flash drive.

Google and Xdrive Free Online Storage 5 GB & 6.5 GB

For the eco-friendly, penny conservative, constantly connected types, people can also take advantage of Google's 6.5 GB of storage for their email accounts, or Xdrive's free 5 GB. Just remember, while although one can lose a DVD or stick, potentially millions can hack into an online account.

Still Pocketable

16 GB to 50 GB

Corsair CMFUSB2.0-16GB 16GB Flash Voyager USB Flash Drive

Still in the keychain pocket category, the memory monster, Corsair, offers a remarkably robust USB drive which will definitely aid the web designer, business person, and student working around the clock with more than enough storage to transfer between workplaces.

Sony BD-RE Rewritable Single Layer 25 GB Disc

Blu-Ray enthusiasts do not need to dish out $150 for a good back-up and computer doc solution. For less than $25, Sony offers an easy way to carry around files, and users can brag about using the latest technology! Films, television shows, and everything else (albeit a limited amount) can fit on a Blu-Ray disc. The only downside... if a Blu-Ray player did come with the computer already, it might not be worth the challenge or cost to buy one.

Zune 30 GB Digital Media Player

Stepping back into the pricier category with perks - Microsoft's Zune not only holds loads of music, video, and picture files, but tweaked correctly can also store data files and transform into a unique portable media and hard drive. Although the Zune usually costs a few bucks more than a comparable iPod, Microsoft offers their device in smaller GB formats, allowing users to ultimately save a substantial amount of money.

The Huge, the Plenty,

and the Discrete

80 GB to 160 GB

Apple 80 and 160 GB iPod Classic

For an even bigger media giant, people can purchase either and 80 or 160 GB iPod which comes prebuilt with storage device features. Still small enough to fit into a pocket, but with enough digital weight to function as an ultimate media machine, those who can afford Apple's trendy device might also find it as the ultimate portable storage solution.

It's really hard to know when to buy one of these little suckers. Each time I price them out, I wait a few weeks and they are either bigger for the same money or cheaper for the same storage size... I guess you just dive in.
