Healthy feet are integral to healthy living. Out feet get up where we need to go each and everyday.
Foot pain is a signal that something is wrong and should be addressed right away to prevent a chronic condition from developing.
Lots of my patients develop something simple that could be easily treated, but wait for months to seek treatment and then the recovery is often long.
Ingrown Toenail
Ingrowing Toenails
These are often the result of improperly cutting nails and for whatever reason it is usually the big toe that is affected.
The nail corner con be gently lifted with a small piece of cotton tucked under to relieve the pressure of the nail on the skin.
If there is pus or redness, you need to seek medical attention. This area of the body has very little tissue between the nail and the bone and chronic flareups with pus can cause a serious underlying infection.
A podiatrist can help to relieve the pain and discomfort with a simple procedure in the office.
If the condition continues to occur, then your doctor can do a procedure that prevents the problematic portion of the nail from growing back.

Onychomycosis Toenail Fungus
Nail Fungus
Those little white spots on the nails are most likely nail fungus. There are differing levels of severity with this condition. It can be diagnosed conclusively with a nail biopsy. Your doctor can do this in the office by sending a small sample of the nail to the lab for testing.
Treatments range from oral medication to topical medical preparations to herbal topical treatments. Novanail-RX is a topical that works on mild to moderate nail fungus and is comprised of an herbal preparation.
No treatment is going to show instant results because the nail growth cycle is 9-11 months, so you will not see results of any treatment for about 3 months.
Orthotic Inserts
Orthotic Inserts
Used commonly for heel pain, orthotic inserts need to be rigid to allow the arch to rest on something to allow the foot to function more efficiently.
Orthotics are used for maintaining efficient foot function and are helpful in many conditions, Pain under the ball of the foot, heel pain, ankle pain, bunion pain, hammertoe pain, neuroma pain.
Their construction ranges from thick full length inserts made of cork and leather to the thin one pictured here that goes into dress shoes up to 3" high.
Neuroma
Neuroma
This is a swelling around the nerve between the 3rd and 4th toes (most commonly, although it does appear in other interspaces). This can cause the toes to feel numb and feel like you are stepping on a knife.
The nerve is normally about 2-3 mm across, so you see the scar tissue that has formed.
Often this is seen in women as a result of wearing pointed toe high heels.
Treatment ranges from orthotics & injections to surgical excision.
