ford explorer and ford f150 trucks are very popular and give good service as far as i have read in reports, and talk to people,i'm sure they have their share of problems, and recalls, like other auto makers.

i went to see a friend of mine who is a mechanic over the week end and we start talking about cars like we usually do,

i spend quite some time with this guy at his shop when i was single and didn't have a wife and daughter to call me every half hour to ask when i was coming home-by the way i love the attention that i get from them but i act like they just annoy me all the time, anyway back to the truck.

my mechanic friend and i start talking about ford truck, he was telling me how hard it is to change the spark plugs on the explorer,

the three on the drivers side took about five minutes each to change because they are in sight you can see them and have access to them easily,

however the ones on the passenger side are very difficulf to get access to,

instead of just being able to take the wire off the plug and un screwing them,

first he have to remove the airfilter and case

then remove the twin container-antifreeze and winshield washer

loosen the heater core

there is so much that is around the plugs

i wonder if the people who design these vehicles thought about maintainance.

HI there! Well first I have to thank you for posting this information about how to change the spark plus on an Explorer. For the last 2 days my husband and myself have tried with all of our effort to change these plugs on the passenger side of our Explorer. Over and over again he kept repeating.. "What a terrible design." "Who would design this to be so complicated?" Anyhow, after reading your post, we tried the above mentioned: Airfilter and case removal, twin container removal, and loosening the heater core - well much to our surprise, we were FINALLY able to change our plugs!! Thanks so much!

You can also access the back plugs on both sides trough the wheel wells it's not easy it is blind and you have to do it by feel. You will need a extension with a universal joint but, it saves a lot of time and you don't have to remove the air filter case and cooler resevoir.
