The old ways of the music industry, have just about left the land of the living...

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em

That subtitle is dedicated to the major record companies who are trying to salvage their lost profits by suing kids who get access to mp3 downloads and attempting to shut down sites where people listen to music online.

The reality is, the free mp3s downloads and the people who get to them are not going anywhere. Instead of wasting time trying to fight the trend, these companies should instead follow the trend and realize that there is an even greater opportunity as a result of the same technology that allows fans to get these free mp3s downloads.

What about if the free mp3s downloads were merely a tool to get fans to take a call to action that you specified. What if, in exchange for free mp3s downloads, the label/artist could get the fans to do something that would multiply the efforts and fans, and put the label/artist in a position to do even greater revenues with some type of paid follow-up product or download.

How about something as simple as attaching revenue from some type of advertising to the free mp3s downloads that occur everyday.

The point being made here is, that there are many ideas and possibilities to what could be done to make free mp3s downloads a part of the new model of the music industry, and it could potentially lead to higher profits than the old model, brign the major labels back into the black zone instead of the red zone, and actually increase the quality of music being put out.

The problem is, some labels and old school artists don't see it this way. They see free mp3s & downloads as just an extra straw in their drink sipping away by an invisible person.

What's interesting is, according to science, there are possibly millions of animals that existed millions of years ago, but are no longer here, simply because they didn't adapt to the change.

The fact is, the music industry as a whole is changing, and no one label or artist can stop it. So to the major labels and old school artists have a choice to make:

  • Contribute to helping discover and develop a way to make free mp3s downloads profitable
  • Adapt and embrace the change that is occuring and take part in it
  • Fight the changing trend to the death, and die to extinction

Seems like a no-brainer, but some will still choose to fight to the death....so sad. Well, at least they made good money while they were in. As for the rest of the new up-and-coming music artists, this is an opportunity to take over and live the life of your dreams...

Make music that you love to make, be happy that fans all over the world like it, and get paid generously for letting them get songs as free mp3s downloads. Anyone who can do what they love to do and make enough money to live and take care of their family is truly blessed, and the new music industry will give that liberty to more than just the major, and sometimes lazy, labels and artists...
