When F-R-E-E Doen't mean Free
51F-R-E-E that Spells Free
I'm sure you've seen or heard the catchy jingles that make the FreeCreditReport.com commercials. I will admit that they have gotten stuck in my head from time to time after watching one.
Although the commercials are decent, the service they are advertising, a free credit report really isn't free at all. This really irks me, because during the whole commercial all you hear is how you can get a free credit report, until the very end when some voice starts stating really fast, that you can only get it with enrollment of their credit monitering service called Triple Advantage. They also show a bunch of little text that isn't even legible.
I know I shouldn't get all worked up about a silly commercial, but before they were using the a different commercial they were sued for deceptive advertising, and I still think thier ads are misleading.
My biggest gripe about their service is they only give you seven days to cancel their credit monitoring service. When you fill out the form to get your credit report they ask for you a credit card number. They use this credit card to charge you $15/month unless you cancel within seven days. I'm sure a lot of people have been charged fifteen bucks without knowing it because they forgot to cancel the service.
