One important thing to remember is that most people who visit your site will not order anything on that first visit. In fact most people will not order until they have visited your site say 7 to 9 times.

If people are not ready to order your product when they visit your website then they will probably leave and you will lose them. So by building an email list you are making it possible for you to contact those people over and over again and remind them of your website so that they can order when they are ready.

Let us say you create a squeeze page or in other words an email capture page where your customers can sign up for a free ebook or your newsletter. This will allow you to send them information on the topic they signed up for so you can send them valuable information to keep them happy like articles for example. Then at the bottom of your email you just put in your website address so your customers will be reminded of you and your products so that they can order when they are ready.

If you did not build an email list or at least put an opt in form on your website where customers can sign up they will probably leave your site and then never order and most likely will not remember your websites address so you will lose them when they leave and like I said 97-99 percent will not order on their first visit to your site.

One of the smartest moves you can make with building your email list is to put a tell a friend script after the sign up page on your squeeze page. This will allow others to help you build your email list.

For example you can offer your customers a free ebook or your newsletter if they sign up on your opt in form. Then when they hit the submit button they are taken to a new webpage that says something like if you tell 3 of your friends about our free ebook we will give you an additional gift valued at say 47 dollars. This will motivate some to tell 3 of their friends and then those 3 could tell 3 friends and so on and so on.

Things can really take off sometimes when you add the tell a friend script to your sign up process. This is called viral marketing and it basically gets your message out there before many people all from the efforts of other people. You should seriously consider using this method of viral marketing in your list building efforts.

Another smart way to build your list is to add the one time offer to the sign up process. I would recommend putting it in after the tell a friend script. The way it would work is first someone signs up for your free ebook or newsletter and then you hit them with the tell a friend script like above. Then they either tell their friends or they choose skip this option and then they go to your one time offer.

Your one time offer should be for a product or products related to your market. It should be a fair price. You would basically say on the top of the one time offer webpage to your customers to wait and check out this offer they will only be able to see here and now. Your customers will either take you up on your offer or they will scroll to the bottom of your webpage and choose the skip this and just give me my free ebook option.

This is one smart way to build your list as it can be built through the work of others. Also by having the one time offer there you can also make a few dollars while building your list. List building can be expensive when advertising so having the one time offer lets you basically offset the cost of the list building.
