If you're wondering about buying a French Press, but aren't sure how to use one this article will help you. It will also make serving suggestions for the robust coffee brewed by French presses; and show you some of the more popular French Press brands at Amazon and Ebay.

Use a French Press to make a rich and full bodied cup of coffee

It is important that you use coarsely ground coffee. This means that you will have to grind your own coffee beans or have them specially ground where you buy your coffee beans. If you use a finer grind it can catch in the coffee press and clog it up.

Once you have the proper coffee, put about 1 tablespoon in the bottom of th press for each 4 ounces of water. Like all things having to do with coffee brewing this is subject to your own taste.

Put the French Press on a non-stick and heat-resistant surface. For me this means putting a clean dish towel on the table or counter.

Pour hot, but not boiling water into the pot. You have to leave at least 1 inch at the top. This is to accommodate the plunger. Stir with a PLASTIC spoon so you don't scratch, chip, or damage the glass carafe. Hold the pot firmly with the spout turned away from you. You don't want any hot water that may come out to scald you. And put the top on the French Press and don't press down.

The coffee should brew between 4 and 5 minutes. It make take you a few times to find out which time gives the flavor you enjoy the most.

Using the weight of your hand, slowly push the knob to lower the coffee press to the bottom of the pot. This presses down the grounds leaving wonderfully rich coffee for you to drink.

Many French press coffee makers have no insulation or heat source, so you need to drink the coffee immediately or transfer it to a thermal carafe that could keep it warm for hours - without sacrificing quality.

Serving Suggestions

Coffee made with a French Press has the robust taste and texture that can accommodate the frothy steamed milk with some flavor syrups added to it. So if you don't already own a milk frother you may want to consider purchasing one.

I love to end a dinner party with making French Press coffee. While the coffee is steeping I use my milk frother to make frothy milk at the table as well.

I have a tasty liqueure collection, such as hazelnut liqueur, chocolate coconut liqueur, banana liqueur and several others. So guests get their French pressed coffee and froth and they can add their own liqueur if the choose. This is usually a big hit with the guests.

There are many different brands of French Presses to choose from. I've shown you some of the most popular brands at Amazon and Ebay. I know you'll find one to suite your needs and your taste buds.
