Fun Facts About Russia
This particular subject is close to my heart since my lineage is part Russian. It is the largest country in the world and I think that is sort of intimidating. It is certainly a country that gets discussed often. I don't know as much about it as I would like so this will help me to learn more about such a fascinating country and people.
- -We all know that vodka is huge in Russia. Did you know that 10% of the governments income comes from the sale of vodka.
- -there was royalty in russia and one in particular who survived a massacre was Anastasia
- -Czar Nicholas the Second was shot
- -the russian prince Alexei had haemophilia
Apparently Russian people think that they are the wonders of the world when it comes to the art of kissing. An opinion poll was taken with the question, "What is a real Russian kiss?"
Here are some answers:
- -long and passionate with spit or snot!
- -it makes your head spin and you makes you feel like you are falling down, and you don't have to analyze where your tongue or lips land
- -it should be strong, unexpected and from the bottom of the heart
I knew that Russian people were lovers and passionate and strong but I had no idea that they held such strong opinions on kissing?
Well now that we have covered that fun fact and somewhat strange fact lets continue with other facts:
- -Russia's official name is the Russian Federation-came into effect in 1991when the Soviet Union split into 15 geo-political parts
- -Russia is a transcontinental country covering half the northern hemisphere- That is what I call spreading out!
- -Russian Orthodox is the main religion
Along with size Russia boasts some entertainment too! There are 221 museums, 2,000 libraries and over 80 theaters. Feel like seeing a concert? Russia has 100 concert establishments. It could be Art is more your taste. Then you can visit one of 45 galleries.
Want to see a movie? No problem. There are 62 cinemas. If it is a night of dancing you are looking for you can hit one of the 80 clubs located around St. Petersburg.
Lets check out some fun facts on nature and the environment:
- -Russia's biggest lake is the Ladgoda at 18,400 sq/km
- -oil, natural gas and timber are plentiful
- -Russia has 12 seas
- -there are 100 reserves and 35 national parks
With all these fun facts it is certainly easy to get carried away with Russia and its rich history.

Actually, Anastasia did not survive the Romanov "massacre." The rumors came about because one set of bones was not originally found where the Soviets buried the rest of the family members' bodies. The missing bones were not Anastasia's however, but one of her sisters. They were later found.

There is absolutely no way that 10% of the government's income comes from the sale of vodka. Check your sources. Do you have any idea how much oil, gas, copper, nickel, steel, gold, etc comes from Russia? LOTS! They drink plenty of vodka, but it's pretty cheap - how is the government making windfall income here? Sales Tax?
