All Is Safely Gathered In
Come, ye thankful people, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in
Ere the winter storms begin.
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied.
Come to God's own temple, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.

Learning From Each Other
Eat It @ everydayfoodstorage.net
Crystal is the recipe queen! She is constantly posting delicious and gorgeous recipes on her blog and they ALL incorporate food storage items. Her philosophy is that you should be using food storage every single day so that it becomes second nature to you. Then in a true emergency you will be better prepared and can continue cooking and eating like normal. Cooking with your food storage can also save you a lot of money on your grocery bill as some dry items are cheaper (milk and eggs), you buy foods ONLY when they are on sale, and it's cheaper to avoid convenience foods like store-bought bread.

Thanks Andrea! It really is a fun concept. Did you figure out which one of the "girls" I am? Hehe.
Great information about food storage, and making it easy! Thanks:-)

Great hub. We used to get the wheat grinded in India but didn't know it can be done here in US. Saw the video and have to checkout the cost benefit of buying 200$ appliance.
Countrywomen - In our research we've found it definitely worth it for us! I'm hoping to do a more in depth wheat post down the road. So make sure to check back.
Write On! - Thanks for commenting. I love all your hubs!
foodstorage - thanks for checking out my hubs. Well I will have to check out the per unit cost of wheat and then compare it to the raw wheat grain. And figure out how long it will take to recoup the cost (besides the obvious extra effort/electricity bill). If you already have analysed this then can you publish that information. Thanks for the hub.
I am a big proponent of food storage, as was my parents. Now my grown children are really getting into it. It make sense for so many reasons. Thanks for the very useful information here!
Nice Hub.
countrywomen - ok we didn't analyze it THAT far. We felt like it was worth more in terms of the fact that we are storing wheat for food storage and we need to learn to use it and to rotate our supply. So the convenience of having a good grinder to process our wheat (plus the cost savings of homemade foods versus storebought), plus the health benefits made it worth it to us.
TLC Grandparent - It seems that my generation has not done very well with self-reliance yet. It's awesome that your kids are on the ball!
Guidebaba - Thanks for stopping by :)
Food storage, Great subject Your Hub Really gives some Good Ideas for people to use in a practile way. Its Great !
Great summary of the food storage process. It really isn't TOO hard if you can relax and let yourself have "fun" with it.
Foodstorage - Can you give me the overall cost of raw wheat in pounds and the current factor I can ignore for now to work out the savings. I bought a $400 plus vitamix juicer which after the first 1 month haven't been using that often hence I wanted to make sure in future I take sensible decisions.
countrywomen - I bought wheat for $14 for 25 pounds at Walmart. I'm assuming it is not available for everyone at walmart. At emergencyessentials.com you can buy 245 pounds for $251.75 including shipping. In Utah they also have some great sales in the fall at regular grocery stores, you just have to keep your eyes open. Hope that gives you a starting point.
Clint and Mike - Nice to see some men who recognize the value of food storage as well!
nice job my new friend...and welcome aboard...looks like you will do just fine...G-Ma :o) Hugs
Very cool post. I always feel massive guilt when I read anything about food storage. I guess the point is that we can't let ourselves get overwhelmed, and we should try to add a little bit at a time as our budget's allow. I purchased several 5 gallon water containers which are stackable and I store in the garage, so that is a big start. (we can live w/o food for many days, but not w/o water). I always try to buy 2 of a staple which goes on sale. (we have about 6 mo supply of peanut butter right now)
:)
G-Ma Johnson - thank you so much. Coming from you that means a lot. You are a hub expert!
MormonSoprano - You are doing better than a lot of people! Having your water and your 72 hour kits are truly the most important things. (72 hour kits are going to be my next hub attempt). If you just break down the other stuff into small steps and just decide to attack one thing each month or so it really is not TOO hard! Thanks for stopping by :)
