Tom and Ray Magliozzi are car mechanics and they have a radio talk show called "CarTalk" on National Public Radio where they give car repair advice to callers. They not only give car advice, but sometimes relationship and marital advice as well (which supposedly ties in or is somewhat related to cars).

The show is full of laughs. How they make the subject of car repair funny, I don't know. But they are able to do it every time. I'm sure many people listen to the show more for the humor than for the advice. They have CD compilations of thier shows with titles like ...

  • Car Talk: Why You Should Never Listen to Your Father When It Comes to Cars
  • Car Talk: The Greatest Stories Ever Told: Once Upon a Car Fire...
  • Car Talk Field Guide to the North American Wacko
  • Car Talk Classics: Four Perfectly Good Hours
  • Car Talk: Doesn't Anyone Screen These Calls: Call About Animals and Cars
  • Car Talk: Men Are from GM, Women Are from Ford

But in fact, they show has more than two million weekly listeners and the show is heard on more than 370 stations with . You can also hear their show online at cartalk.com

Tom and Ray also have a newspaper column called 'Click and Clack Talk Cars,' syndicated in over 400 newspapers. Some of their best 100 column letters and car advice are compiled in the book, "Ask Click and Clack: Answers from Car Talk"

About Tom and Ray

Tom and Ray are brothers and are sometimes known as Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers. They had both went to the prestigious university Massachusetts Institute of Technology. How they because car mechanics is anyone's guess. They actually run a car repair shop called "Good News Garage" in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They do their show nearby in Harvard Square in Cambridge Massachusetts as well.

Sometimes, Tom and Ray rant about things they believe it. For example, the audio above is their rant in favor of a gas tax. Even in this kind of a rant, they are able to make it funny. A compilation of some of their rants is found in the book, In Our Humble Opinion: Car Talk's Click and Clack Rant and Rave.

Radio Show Features

They have a weekly puzzler on the show where they give an logic puzzle (sometimes an automotive related) for the listeners to solve. You can read the puzzler submit the puzzle answer on their website. The answer and winner is revealed in the following show. However, during the summer months, the puzzler is often known to be "off during summer vacation".

There is also a feature called "Stump the Chumps" where "Chumps" refers to Tom and Ray. This is when a caller who had been given advice would come back on the show to tell the audience whether the advice given by Tom and Ray was indeed correct or not.

In between segments, they usually play songs that are car related. For example, a funny song that had been played once was titled "Beep Beep Beep" played in the tune of "Moonlight Sonata" -- the song of which you can hear on the site "Beethoven's Wig featuring Richard Perlmutter" or in the album Beethoven's Wig 4. If you hear a good song on CarTalk and you want to find its source, you can search CarTalk Songs on Cartalk.com

The CD Car Talk: Born Not to Run: More Disrespectful Car Songs is a collection of car songs as heard on CarTalk.

The show usually ends when you hear "Well, it's happened again - you've wasted another perfectly good hour listening to Car Talk". Ray usually says to remember ... "Don't drive like my brother", to which Tom replies "And don't drive like my brother." On occasion, they like to bring their sister into the mix by saying "Don't drive like my sister."
