Funny Halloween Recipes

Halloween is a time of year when we love to have fun, admittedly in a slightly spooky and scary way. The kids love to have themed funny Halloween food, and it’s a good way to get them to eat something other than candy! You can find even more at Halloween Funny Stuff.

Chef Witchy has kindly agreed to share some of her special recipes with us this year...

Witches Wart Muffins

Muffins are always a favourite and decorating them with ‘Warts’ will make them suitably gruesome for the kids – and get them to eat some fruit!

  • 9 ozs (250 gms) plain flour
  • 3 teaspoons (15 mls) Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5 mls) salt
  • 1½ teaspoons (7.5 mls) mixed spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger or spices of your choice)
  • 4 ozs white sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 5 fl oz (150 mls) Milk
  • 3 fl ozs (90 mls) corn oil
  • 6 ozs (170gms) apple, chopped into small chunks
  • 3 oz (85 gms) Raisins and Chopped walnuts, mixed

Preheat the Oven to 375 – 400º (190 – 200ºC)

Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and spices, and stir in the sugar.

In a separate bowl, mix together the egg, milk and oil. Stir in the small chunks of apple.

Add the wet mixture to the dry and stir into the dry. Don’t worry if the mixture seems a little thick, the apples will release juice as they cook.

Spoon the mixture into muffin cases then sprinkle the raisins and nuts (the ‘Warts’) on the top, you should get about 12 muffins.

Bake for 20 – 25 minutes until browned.

Eat when cool.

Slime ‘Pie’

This one was always a great success with my little spook – ghosts love to ‘slime’ people, and this green frittata is filled with yummy green goo…

  • 1 lb (450 gms) greens – Spinach, Swiss Chard, Spinach beet, Chinese leaves or any suitable green leafy vegetable
  • 4 tablespoons (60 mls) chopped parsley
  • 1 finely chopped onion (optional)
  • 8 Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons (10 mls) yoghurt or cream
  • 2 tablespoons( 30 mls) water
  • Seasoning

Lightly steam or boil the greens, drain and chop

Add the greens to the parsley and onion (if using)

Beat together the Eggs, yoghurt and water and stir the mixture into the vegetables

Put a little oil into the bottom of a large omelette pan and heat.

When hot enough pour in the ‘slime’ mix and keep it gently moving until it starts to cook.

Cook over a gentle heat until the bottom is browned and the top is set – if necessary you can put it under the grill for a few seconds to finish off the top.

If you want to make it extra gruesome sprinkle ‘wiggly worms’ in the form of grated cheese on top!

Serves 4 ghouls or ghosts

It's Halloween!
