Do you have a small space, but you want to decorate it with fashionable furniture that won't leave your home looking crowded? If so, there are a few types of furniture you might want to consider purchasing in order make the best use of your space while also making it appear more spacious.

The Mirrored Cabinet

Using mirrors is always a great way to make a home appear more spacious. As the mirrors reflect the light and the space in the room, it adds more depth and tricks the eye into thinking the area is larger. If you want to get the most use out of your wall space, however, you shouldn't hang just a simple mirror. Rather, hang a mirrored cabinet so you can stow items away while also increasing the space.

Interior Design for Small Spaces

Nesting Tables

Nesting tables are another good option for homes with limited space. These tables can easily be tucked away beneath each other and placed aside when not in use. Then, when you need more table space, you can pull the tables out and spread them out wherever they are needed. Since these tables are meant to be stacked beneath each other, they still create an attractive look while keeping your home from appearing cluttered.

Hidden Beds

If you are really crowded for space, you might want to consider installing a hidden wall bed. With this type of bed, you can actually flip the bed up to hide it away in the wall when not in use. This is a particularly good option if you have a room that you want to use as an office as well as guest bedroom, as you can purchase these hideaway beds to offer a desk on one side and a bed on the other.

Ottoman with Storage Space

An ottoman is an excellent addition to any home, but can be particularly useful in homes with little extra space. An attractive padded ottoman can serve as a footrest in front of a couch as well as an extra seat when guests are visiting. Select your ottoman carefully and choose one that also offers a storage compartment. This way, you can store books, magazines, remote controls and other items within your ottoman so you can maintain an uncluttered appearance.

Space Saving Tables

Some dining room tables are big and bulky, which means they take up quite a bit of space. You can save room in your kitchen or dining room by selecting tables that are specifically designed to save space. Look for table sets with chairs that hug the table closely so your entire dining room set will look tidy and will save you space at the same time.

Small Decor

In addition to purchasing the right furniture pieces, you should also consider the size of your space when picking out your décor. Large decorations will only draw attention to the fact that your space is small, so stick with décor that is well-suited to the size of your space. Also, don't get carried away with the décor. Having too many knick-knacks will only make your space look cluttered, which will also make it appear to be smaller. Limit your décor to only a few smaller pieces that help draw together the look in your room and you will be sure to be thrilled with the results!

Interesting topic, Travel Girl, with several good ideas. Anyone interested in furnishing small rooms should look around a few show houses as new houses usually have small rooms.

You've got some very good ideas here. I've got a small apartment so found it very useful.
