Getting Closer To Your Children By Teaching
64
Why does teaching children, bring them closer?
Children identify with people whom have things in common with them. The kids next door and the kids in their classes, are magnets for your kids all because they are experiencing the same things. Bringing the child home, you have enough obsticles to work through, just deciding what schedules you and your child is going to establish can be a task, to say the least.
On several levels, you child has a pre-concieved perception that the parent is smarter than they are. In that alone, a parent has a challenge in getting the child to listen and to engage thier mind. When home schooling is approached, the child sees sides of the parent that maybe they are not used to seeing, or has not seen enough of a person needing to learn the same thing the child has to learn.
Because a parent has to refresh or relearn a subject, the child then will identify with that parents lack of current knowledge. This is not a bad thing, but instead a building of a freshly, unexplored facet of the parent/child relationship.
Knowing If Your Can Successfully Teach Your Children
There are many families whom consider whether or not to try homeschooling their children. Questions, will seem to over-rank answers when it comes to actually undertaking this type of endeavor. With so many questions, it is prayed that this material can answer some of your questions and allow you to make an informed or educated decision.
No one honestly knows if they have what it takes, to home school your children. We have heard such comments as; "I do not have a College Teaching Degree", so I can not do it." Not True!! The basic foundation, in my opinion, is laid upon the question of: "How do you and your children interact, when you are trying to explain things, to them?"
Encourage Your Child To Teach You
At times, there will be subjects, which will challenge the parent. This will force the child to re-evaluate their perception of that parent. If the parent is honest, he/she will tell the child that it has been some time, since they had to study or solve a given problem; therefore that parent will need to refresh their knowledge. When subjects come up, which the parent has problems with, or need to refresh their knowledge on, the child will normally become more engaged.
Engaging the child's mind, can be very rewarding. By allowing your child to take a subject, and teach you about it, can improve the child's attention and learning capacity. By teaching you, both you and your child learns through searching and trying new things together. Once all the searching for answers is completed, and both of you have your ideas of how to achieve an answer, have the child tell you what his/her answer is and show you how they arrived at their answer. Have them prove, to the best of their ability why their answer is sound.
Your child, will change his/her perception and of the parent and gravitate towards the parent more, and more, as the process of home schooling progresses..
Kids Learn To Depend On Each Other.
Children, like adults in relationships, learn to depend on each other. From forming opinions about parents and adults, to how to achieve academic success. Traditional schooling, children learn only what is expected for graduation. However through quality interactions, children begin to depand on each other to find foundation, for their learning experiences.
Since children will gravitate to other kids, merely due to thier learning the same thing, can you see where the child will gavitate towards the parent? Well, the child will grow closer to a parent, when that parent not only teaches, but also allows him/herself to be taught, openly that is, by the child in the same setting. Having fun and making lessons interesting, by throwing in a few field trips, makes lessons and ideas stay fresh, longer in the child's mind. But even bigger than that, s when the child has the opportunity to teach the parent,. The memory even becomes more detailed when the parent is secure enough to admit being wrong, from time to time.
