"Global" is understood as a business term and "Guide" is commonly taken as a book of information like a guide to breeding dogs. So, being a Global Guide is often a misunderstood career term. But, that is what they are often called.

The main reason you would want a Global Guide versus a Travel Guide is the fact that you can find nooks and crannies within a city or a region that make your travel experiences all that much more fulfilling. When you hire a typical travel guide to give you a tour of the city, they walk you around and tell you all about the popular and common sites. But, a Global Guide can be asked to show you the best places to shop, the best places to eat and the best places to enjoy the culture. Rather than the famous restaurant everyone in the world knows about, you can dine in a momma and papa's restaurant that captures the essence of the city, country, culture, people...etc.
