Dark Blue not just a shot in the dark
If you are like me, and you watch countless hours of television a week you tend to get excited when previews for a new show are announced. TNT is hosting a show called Dark Blue. When I learned it was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer I immediately decided to record the pilot to see what the show was all about. I'm a huge Jerry Bruckheimer fan! Either way, Dark Blue has managed to stay on the air for three episodes thus far, and it doesn't appear the show will be disappearing any time soon. While, I thoroughly enjoy the show there are a few things that have me irked.
For one, I would like some more background information on these characters. I know it's only the third episode in, but it would make them more relatable if they had humanistic qualities. Not many of us go undercover with law enforcement. So, while it provides a great reality escape for most viewers, it leaves the characters in the distance because we haven't learned much about their backgrounds yet. Two, I desperately need some more information on how this deep undercover group got started. Why does front man Carter Shaw came to be the lead man of this group? How did Ty Curtis and Dean Bendis get involved? The only one we have a hint about is the only girl on the team, Jaimie Allen. Whom we just learned about on last night's episode "Purity", which involves shining light on Jaimie's drug past. Thirdly, and lastly, how does Carter have so much authority to just run the streets as he sees fit. I need more information on the team itself. Maybe as viewers that is supposed to be kept a mystery, but who does that guy report to??
Now, last night's episode was a good one. I did like that it shed a little light on the shady side, if you will, of Jaimie's past. It definitely made her character more relatable. I don't like that she was put on lead so quickly into the show. It didn't seem like that would actually happen on a team that handles such delicate street nastiness. I also didn't understand how a recovering drug addict can have a drink after a long day? When Dean stops by Jaimie's digs to have a drink, that threw me off. I always assumed once a recovering addict, from any substance, it was a good idea to avoid all abusive substances. Of course that me lead into a deeper level of Jaimie's character. There's not way to tell for sure, at least until next week's episode. I can't wait.
