GOD Provides HERBS For FOOD: Fresh LEMON GRASS Drinks help cure CANCER

In the creation of the universe, God had provided every thing necessary for the survival of mankind, including herbs. And God said,"Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be meat" (Genesis 1:29).

In verse 30, God continues: "And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, where in there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."

God specified in Genesis 1:29 that herb bearing seed is upon the face of all the earth. God had spread the herb bearing seed throughout the whole universe and not confined to any specific spot so that all the people can share the goodness of the herbs. In the course of time, man learns to barter for the things that he needs, and that is the start of commerce.

Man is commanded to eat the herb of the field (Genesis 3:18). To all animals, every fowl of the air and every creeping creature, the herb is food for meat. Biblically, the Israelites tithed their herbs (Luke 11:42). The Pharisees tithed mint, rue and all manner of herbs according to Luke. It is also said that those who are weak eat herbs.

After the Great Flood God allowed man to eat meat but with restrictions.

"Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood" (Gen. 9:3-4).

More and more people are turning to alternative medicine to cure diseases. Use of herbs to help alleviate suffering is fairly common.

At first, Benny Zabidov, an Israeli agriculturalist who grows greenhouses full of lush spices on a pastoral farm in Kfar Yedidya in the Sharon region, couldn't understand why so many cancer patients from around the country were showing up on his doorstep asking for fresh lemon grass. It turned out that their doctors had sent them. 'They had been told to drink eight glasses of hot water with fresh lemon grass steeped in it on the days that they went for their radiation and chemotherapy treatments,' Zabidov told ISRAEL21c. 'And this is the place you go to in Israel for fresh lemon grass.'

It all began when researchers at Ben Gurion University of the Negev discovered last year that the lemon aroma in herbs like lemon grass kills cancer cells in vitro, while leaving healthy cells unharmed. The research team was led by Dr. Rivka Ofir and Prof. Yakov Weinstein, incumbent of the Albert Katz Chair in Cell-Differentiation and Malignant Diseases, from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at BGU.

Citral is the key component that gives the lemony aroma and taste in several herbal plants such as lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), melissa (Melissa officinalis) and verbena (Verbena officinalis).

According to Ofir, the study found that citral causes cancer cells to 'commit suicide: using apoptosis, a mechanism called programmed cell death.' A drink with as little as one gram of lemon grass contains enough citral to prompt the cancer cells to commit suicide in the test tube.

The BGU investigators checked the influence of the citral on cancerous cells by adding them to both cancerous cells and normal cells that were grown in a petri dish. The quantity added in the concentrate was equivalent to the amount contained in a cup of regular tea using one gram of lemon herbs in hot water. While the citral killed the cancerous cells, the normal cells remained unharmed.

The findings were published in the scientific journal Planta Medica, which highlights research on alternative and herbal remedies. Shortly afterwards, the discovery was featured in the popular Israeli press. "

Science is making progress in helping to eliminate diseases but there are yet many hurdles to overcome. Discoveries are made sometimes through fluke shots. No matter how clever and intelligent man is, he still finds himself at a loss over a great many things. A fair amount of new discoveries has been made by science in the use of herbs as vital to man's health. From the first book of Genesis, we are already told that every herb bearing seed shall be meat to us, "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be meat" (Genesis 1:29).

Maybe man should heed God's words and let herbs be our meat. God is very fair in the distribution of herbs through the face of all the earth. No country seems to be without its herbs. Praise and thank the Lord for His fairness and righeousness in dealing with His children throughout the universe. It seems that vegetarians have a point here that they could survive on fruits, vegetables and grains of seed. Man in the Old Testament lived longer, for example, Adam lived nine hundred and thirty years (930 years) (Genesis 5:5) while Methuselah lived nine hundred sixty and nine years (969 years) (Genesis 5:27)

David lived only 70 years and was considered to have "died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour:" (1 Chronicles 29:28). Psalms 90:10 tells us, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."

In the future, there is very much hope that herbs will lead man to discover many more cures for the ills of mankind. God had at the very beginning of creation of the universe indicated that herbs would be meat for mankind. Heed the words of God or face the consequence!
