We have all been in that never-ending argument. The one in which neither party is willing to admit defeat. The point is then reached where neither can recall the reason for the argument and it just fades away into a very uncomfortable and akward environment. This is something with which I am well acquainted. I grew up in a family of screamers. All we knew how to do was scream over each so that whether I hear your point or not, you're hearing mine! We are not apologizers so I never learnt how to so I am one of those exceedingly annoying individuals who will never apologise or admit that I was wrong, no matter how wrong I was. This is how I thought fights were meant to be carried out, no apologies and an uncomfortable re-adjustment period after the fight. Then I met my husband. My sweet and gentle BETTER half, my antithesis. I am the fighter by nature, as explained above, he is the lover. Whether he is wrong or not he always apologises first. He has taught me that in every argument, both parties have something to apologise for and he apologises for his contribution to the argument. This is the way to back out of an argument gracefully and with dignity:

• Always remember, you had a contribution. Whether it was raising your voice or simply ignoring the other person, you have something to apologise for. Be the bigger person and do so first, that way you have the upper hand somewhere along the line.
• Something Daylon, my husband, is very good at is disarming me. He knows how to make me laugh in the heat of battle. He has a bag of tricks that seems bottomless in this regard. His favourite ruse is the "hard-to-get-rid-of" game, which is how he got me in the first place. His theory is that if he persists with smiles and kisses I will eventually calm down ... and it works like a charm.
• Ofcourse you cant expect the aforementioned tact to work alone. Before using HTGRO you must let the party know that you fully understand their point of view. Once they are calm and more receptive you can explain yours.
• Chocolate is a winner! Nobody can say no to the almighty chocolate. It is a great deal sealer.

Most importantly, never go to bed on an argument! Whether the argument is with a sister, a friend, brother, lover, husband, wife, whoever NEVER go to sleep without resolving it!
