My Grandmother Won A Green Card Lottery
61
It came as a surprise and great astonishment when I read in one of the dailies where one young man claimed that his grandmother has won an American green card.
I thought and mused to myself, what for?
The rush for the American green card has been on the tremendous increase till this moment. Torrents of people, mostly Africans and Asians- from the third world countries are scrambling to get a chunk of the green card opportunities. But why, I wondered to myself?
What is it that could make a grandmother apply for a green card? What was the motive behind her applying for the green card in the first place?
My quest and curiosity for answer made me to embark on a fact finding mission to the young man grandmother’s place i.e. the woman that won the American green card
I met this woman (I guess she should be in her late sixties), though she looks a little bit agile (thanks to African herbs).
“It has been my dream to live in the US or visit it and I realize that one of the easy ways is through a green card application, she said”. I asked her, but why this time, you are a grandmother already, I do not think you need the green card. At this, she smiled and said “am not old”. She continued, winning the green card is a dream comes true for me to come to the US. The green card presents opportunity to become an American citizen. This opportunity includes all the benefits of living in the United States.
A fellow living in a third world country has a very high probability of not maximizing his/her potentials. She then cited the case of Barack Obama.
Even if it means going there, and doing nothing, am still happy for the opportunity presented to me through this green card, she said.
Then, I reasoned within myself, for how long will this green card issue last? Considering the global recession and economic meltdown in the US, is this the right time for her to have won the green card?
Well, her experience in God’s own country will justify the above assertion.

Appreciate your comment. Anyway, I wish her the best when she gets there
A most understandable desire to get a green card,a weeks pay over there, is like a months pay, when you compare every where else, and shopping for technology is so much better when one compares the prices in their own land!
Neat hub thanks for sharing!
Hi warren, I quite agree with you.........thanks for dropping by to drop a comment
This is my first stop, James. I enjoyed reading about the lady who won the green card. She is far more fortunate at this time than she will be after Obama depreciates our money - which is in process. Actually the euro has fallen quite a bit lately. How's your currency? Is it holding up? Is it falling to practically nothing which is what experts predict will happen here, what with all of the flooding the world with dollars and our tremendous debt that Bush and Obama created? Neither were good presidents, so far, in my opinion. They are changing America. Maybe in forty years we will be wanting citizenship in Nigeria and America will be ruined. I certainly hope not. Good luck my good fellow.

Thanks dusanotes for your comment. However, I believe that Obama is doing the right thing. America will bounce back, even stronger.

An interesting hub. I hope she does well when she comes here to the United States. It is very hard right now for almost everyone here, but I imagine that it is especially hard for new immigrants.
