When Grooming a Yorkie you should not only take care of the coat, but of the whole Yorkie. We're going to start with the coat and then go into other areas that are important.

For a Yorkshire Terrier’s hair to grow best, it should be in good health and eating proper food. A very important aspect is keeping your dog clean, as dirty hair won't grow well. You should bath your Yorkie once every week or two. You could use any good dog shampoo, but do not use shampoo for humans, it will only ruin your dog’s fur and skin. Always prepare a bath when grooming a yorkie, and think of it as a good occasion to bond with your dog.

When grooming a yorkie, you must clean the corners of the eyes if your dog tears a lot. Some Yorkies tear more than others and cleaning this area will help prevent
staining around the eyes. If the tears aren't cleaned the whisker hair may rot over time.

Always clean his years! Use extreme care with your Yorkies ears and do not use cotton swabs etc. If need be, use a good ear flush or powder.

Your Yorkie might risk to hurt himself if the hair on his pads aren't clipped, as this can cause him to slip slippery surfaces. Trim around his feet and coat as needed. For a complete video course on how to trim your yorkie's hair check the link at the bottom of this page, it will help you a lot.

Take good care of his teeth! A Yorkie's teeth should be cleaned every day if you want your dog to have white teeth and a sweet smelling breath. You can do this by gently brush the teeth front and back. If this is done daily you will find that the teeth stay much cleaner and healthier for years.

Another thing you should be aware of when grooming a yorkie are his toenails. They should be cut regularly, at least twice a month. Also make sure you check for parasites, because these can cause irritation, inflamation and infection of the skin. Always check the ears, under the legs and around the neck and chest area when grooming a yorkie.

These are top 6 things you should take in consideration when grooming a yorkie. If you do this regularly, your dog should be in a very good condition and it will live happily for many years.
